Where to go in the Caribbean?

My wife and I are considering one of the Carribean Islands as a vacation spot this Novemeber. We spent our honeymoon in Hawaii and had a great time, we enjoyed its natural beauty as well as the activities on the islands. We are looking for something similiar for this vacation. We would rather spend more time away from the beach doing activities. Can anyone recommend any island that is loaded with non-beach activities and attractions?

I think Puerto Rico must top the list for the variety of non-beach activities available. This is an island to explore with a rental car and it is fun to stay in the Paradors. Here are some of the points of interest.
1. The El Yunque rain forest.
2. The Camuy caverns - they are almost as good as those in Carlsbad.
3. The luminesent bay.
4. A stay in the main square of Ponce in the Melia Hotel with a room over looking the fountain with its many color light show at night.
5. The Art Museum in Ponce is a lovely small museum that is world class.
6. Old town with its history. Stay in the B&B there that is also an art gallery or in the Gran Hotel El Convento with the center courtyard.
7. Drive though the highlands and stay in the Parador Hacienda Gripinas that is on a coffee plantation. It is an old mansion that is over 200 years old.
8. Visit the Arecibo Radio Telescope.
9. Shop for a santo, there is an oustanding shop in old town that has old ones for sale that are brought in from the hills.
10. Visit the old fort in old town

These are just a few of the things that you can do.
I highly suggest you wait until December when the hurricane season should be over. Most places do not begin the "high season" until December 16th.

You will not find ANYTHING in the Caribbean to match the beauty and standard of living you found on Maui!!

Hands down the answer is Puerto Rico. Arthur Frommer, the travel writer, called it his favorite over-all island. True it's not Maui, but Maui is not Puerto Rico with all its history, culture and it can't be judged by modern San Juan. Just like Hawaii is not Waikiki. Some of the sites offered should be explored to make a good decision. All other islands for the most part are beach and beach. Jamaica is beautiful, but the natives are a bit restless. The Dominican is too big and doesn't have the infracture

Jamaica is beautiful, but the natives are a bit restless. The Dominican is too big and unfortunately too poor. All other islands offer little in the way of culture.
Remember, if you're looking for Hawaii you must go to Hawaii. The Caribbean has a different charm of its own.
