WHAT TO DO IN THE BAHAMAS

I'm taking the cruise from Ft. Lauderdale to Bahamas (I believe its either Nassau or Freeport--not sure), and staying for three nights. Any suggestions of what to do in three days in the Bahamas?

Thanks.

If it is Nassau sign up for the trip out to Blue Lagoon Island. They have great live music on the boat ride out and there are many things to do on the beautiful beaches(snorkeling, snorkeling with the stingrays, swim with the dolphins, use of non-motorized water toys, or swinging in a hammock). There is a bar there, live band, and food available for purchase. You can stay as long as you want because there are several departure times. If it is Freeport just ask them to take you to the casino or to the beach. The shopping there isn't so good and most of the buildings aren't scenic.Enjoy!

My wife daughter and I just came back from Paradise Island. We are divers and dove with Bahama Divers to great reefs and the Lost Blue Hole. Since my daughter isn't a PADI certified diver, we went on afternoon excursions to shallow reefs, and noticed many snorkelers tagged along. You may want to try it out, in addition to the Blue Lagoon. They go to places like Thunderball Reef, Baracuda Reef, etc., and we saw beautiful coral formations, sponges, parrot fish, stingrays, baracuda, thousands of grunts and angelfish. The reefs were only 15-25 feet deep, so the snorkelers viewed it all while floating on the surface. They have a website on Yahoo, just type in "Bahama Divers" which explains all the afternoon shallow dives for snorkelers. Have a great time! Email me if you need additional info. Bob
I hate to be a spoilsport, but please don't go to Freeport. My family and I went a few years ago and had a terrible time.

1) Food and beverage prices are TWICE the U.S. cost (i.e. a 12" Subway Club is $9.00+, a 12-pack of beer is $18.00 U.S.).

2) Also, there is begging on the streets AND in the restaurants (Burger King). These people come up to you while you're eating and sit down at the table - no fear at all!

3) Also, there is garbage all over in the forests - don't try to hike it.

4) The hotel we stayed at (Bahama Grand Hotel - not at the beach), had Concertina wire (circular barbed wire) all around the hotel, due to two female vacationers being RAPED on the premisis. The hotel was in very poor shape, and evidence of cockroaches (in the light fixtures) too.

A bright spot though was the duty free shopping - British goods are especially reasonable.

All in all, please DO NOT GO! We left early, short $400, but felt lucky to leave at all. If you must go, I would recommed it as a DAYTRIP only - the shopping is good, but the sights are no where near the quality of what you will find in Florida, and Florida is much cheaper!

Best wishes, whatever your choice.

Hi, I am wondering - are you going via Executive Tour & Travel Services? Your description sounds very familiar. We are going in April. Please let me know how your experience was if it is the same company. Thank you so much.

Your mostly likely going to Freeport. On board the ship they will be handing out flyers with a list of activities on what to do on the Isand. Highly reccremond going snorkling.

Is the cruise you are taking a 4 hour cruise? If so, I am familiar with it, having done it three times (two times too many). You will be going to Freeport. To be completely honest, I found Freeport to be one of the most boring places I have ever been too. As a previous poster mentioned, it is good for a day trip, but not much else. I didn't experience the problems that poster had, and wouldn't be bothered by begging (it's not as if the US is free of that) which I didn't see anyway, but except for the shopping it is dull, dull, dull. Sorry to sound so negative, but I felt you ought to know.
