What island compares to St. John?

Just got back from my second trip to St. John.... what a wonderful island! My husband would like to go to another place on our next vacation. Is there another island that has the same qualities as St. John.... mountainous, great beaches, just laid back without a lot of hussle bussle? Any suggestions will be appreciated!

I've been to Barbados several times and just love it. Very friendly people, great scenic beauty, nice hotels, and much less of the cruise ship crowd than other Caribbean islands.

They also make Mount Gay rum there!

When on Barbados, comparing it to St. John never occurred to me. It is a large island with a diverse topography, lots of action or no action at all, depending on your preferences. Great dining tho and a decidedly English influence. Not too much in common with St. John but a great island! I guess I would have to head further south to the Grenadines to capture some of the pristine isolation of St. John or head to some of the "out" islands of the BVI, Virgin Gorda, Jost, etc

I've heard that Grenada is similar to St. John in many ways--lush & green, rugged, nice beaches and relatively quiet/undeveloped. Haven't been there myself though. Anyone who's seen both?

Try Tortola. Very luch, unspoiled. You can take a day trip to the baths on Virgin Gorda.

Gonna get in trouble here! LOL
The only difference is that Tortola doesn't have the beaches that St. John has! It is a lovely island but to go to the wonderful beaches, other than a few, you have to travel to the other islands! If you are a real beach person, St. John is better for that than Tortola but Tortola has other things that St. John doesn't!
