Westin, St. John

We are planning a trip to St. John and are looking at the Westin. My husband and I stayed at Caneel Bay previously, but with
two children, we'd have to get two rooms there--too expensive! Will we enjoy the
Westin? Would you recommend the meal plan
or would we be better off eating out of the
resort? Thanks!
I don't think that you can compare the Westin to Caneel Bay. You might consider a villa instead or perhaps you should consider going to the British Virgin Islands. You have a broader selection of places to stay and the BVI is even nicer than St. John.

We took our 2 year son to the Westin in December. We had a great time. There is a childrens program, but he was to young to participate. I would not get the meal plan. There are great places to eat in town. There is a deli on the hotel grounds as well as a small grocery store and deli right outside the hotel property.
Be sure to try Uncle Joes BBQ, Lime Inn, and Skinny Legs.

After Caneel, you may be disappointed with the Westin. Caneel DID offer a package, off season, that the kids could stay in the second room at half. I would opt for a villa but then you are not on a beach - maybe look at Maho for an "alternate" family experience.

I was at the Westin in August 1998. Nice place but I didn't like the Kids program. The morning was mainly inside activities and the afternoon was at the pool. I was not comfortable with the level of supervision at the pool. My daughter was only 3. The kids pool and the adult pool were seperated by a common wall (1 foot). My daughter was the only guest, the rest were residents. However, during parts of the year the kids club is open to anybody. I would suggest a condo (Gallows Point is nice and within walking distance of town, you do not need a jeep). Town has alot of nice places to eat but the taxi cost from the Westin adds $3 for ever person.

In addition to Gallows point (pricy) there are pently of codos to check out (Battery Hill, Lavendor hill, etc.)

Beautiful hotel the rooms are fab. I live on St.John and there is not a more Romantic beautiful hotel for the price. I would not really recomend it as much if you are bringing a child under the age of 6. But i loved it and had a wonderful stay. AND TRY ROOM VITH A VIEW A WONDERFUL RESTAURANT ON ST.THOMAS THE BEST IN THE CARIBBEAN
