VG questions

Sorry for the repost, but forgot to tag BVI last time. Thaks to those who already responded.

Heading to Virgin Gorda in about a week, and wanted to get a few pointers from everyone here on the board. We are debating between a few different day trips. Would prob like to do 2.5-3 days worth of trips and spend the remaining 4 days on VG. We have thought about

1. Anegada: have heard it is beautiful, but have not really gotten a feeling for what else ther is to do there besides explore ( and Fish possibly). I know the ferry sch is sporadic and req reservations. Can anyone provide a little more info on this. I'm kinda thinking we would rather stay on VG than go to Anegad and just really get to know VG.

2. Day trip to JVD- Definitely want to do this!We have always wanted to go, however I understand it is quite difficult to do from VG. What is the easiest way to get there...from my research it seems early ferry to Tortola and then ferry to JVD. What are the must do things on JVD, Soggy Dolalr Bar, Foxy's etc.

3. Day sail/snorkel trip: A few yrs back while on St. J we took a day trip to VG/baths/Indians/ and lunch. It was great. I have read abouta trip that DD Charters does to Norman Island, Indians, Lunch , and a ship wreck. Does anyone have any recs in regards to these snorkel trips. Our main love is snorkeling so what ever day sail has the best snorkeling is what we would most likely do.

4. I am having a hard time understanding how people not staying at Little Dix and Biras creek can use/visit their resort/watersports/day trips etc. I understand there are some opprotunities to "sail" yourselfs to some of the smaller surronding islands. Is this out of Leverick or Biras Creek?

I also understand that Bitter End opens up some of its amenties to thos not staying there?

Finally, If we wanted to go to one or two really nice (I know this is realteively speaking we are in teh islands) on VG what would be your top choices? I heard Biras has a great trestuarant? Can anyone go? For ref our fav restuarants on St. John were Asolare and Zozo's.

Thanks ahead of time for any recommendations. This forum is a wealth of useful information and full of nice folks!

i must be truthful and tell you that the snorkeling off Anegada is not very good any more thopugh the beach is quite beautiful. On VG obviously the Baths are nice and Nail Oil Bay and a few other spots are nice but not equal to St.John around Caneel. Norman Island is quite good and Cooper is almost as good. We rented a power boat with a fellow named Mitchell through Biras Creek for $700.He took us to both and one other spot he called his secret spot over a period of 6 1/2 houers. That was in 2006 but rates should be close today. Biras has excellent dinners, adequate lunches and good breakfasts. The villas are quite nice.If you do not mind walking or riding a bike then you are o.k. because the resort is very spread out. they rent golf carts by the day now for$25-$30 so I hear for we were there at the end of 2006 before they were available. It is a lot quieter than LDB and a lot nicer, in my opinion than Bitter End. You will read on this forum that the food at LDB is quite good and consistent but is a larger resort than Caneel and Biras is 1/2 the size of Caneel and 1/3 the size of LDB. Hope some of this helps.

I believe Caneel has approximately 150 rooms, Little Dix has 100. Caneel allows non-guests to use only Caneel Beach after signing in at the main desk. Little Dix seems very private and allowed only day trip guests from their sister resort, Caneel to use their facilities. It has been a year since I have been to either one,so perhaps because tourism has been economically depressed, this may have changed.

I have been to Anagada with Dive BVI and had a great time. It is like visiting the Caribbean in years long past. Fish snorkeling from the beach we were on was mediocre at best; however the reef which is treacherous in storms to boats, has lots of wrecks which would prove interesting. Guidance for locations would probably be needed, My daytrip there was with Dive BVI. I recommend them highly. They also have snorkeling trips to Norman Islands, The Indians and the Baths. In addition, they have an eco tour guided by a marine botanist which includes snorkeling and hiking, and I intend to do in February. You can check out their website for more info.

When we stayed at Biras a few years back we did the daytrip to Anageda and went to the beach at Loblolly Bay. The beach itself was the most beautiful I have ever seen just like a Corona commercial but the snorkeling was just o.k.

The food at Biras was amazing and the service was outstanding. I believe you can make a reservation to have dinner there if you are not a guest. The staff there is so helpful you may want to send them an email to get some of your other questions answered regarding the sailing and daytrips. Good luck!

You can rent boats, take the snorkeling boat, etc. at Bitter End. You can use their pool if you buy lunch at the pool. The breakfast buffet at LDB is a fav of mine- a beautiful setting. You can also rent boats at Leverick.
