USAirways bankruptcy info

Does anyone know anything?

My husband's brother in law who is an air traffic controller at BWI said that he has heard it's quite likely that USAir will officially go under in the first quarter.

Just want to know if this may really happen this time or if they can dig themselves out yet again.

It ain't over 'til it's over.

I believe USAir faces a labor agreement deadline Jan. 8 and a financing deadline Jan. 14. The latter date has been mentioned as a drop-dead possibility.

They might turn out the lights in the next 10 days or they might muddle along for months or years. I suspect that anyone who says they know the outcome for certain is overstating their knowledge.

Maybe we'll make it to San Juan next week after all...

I'm with you Diana - we're booked to San Juan on US Airways in March (FF ticket to boot) - we are definitely keeping our fingers crossed - we live near Pittsburgh and have flown US Airways quite a bit and still have quite a few FF miles with them.

On another note, I would HOPE that a "pissed off mechanic" wouldn't put innocent people in danger - I still have faith in mankind. And to quote the bankruptcy judge in the hearing when the union rep told him that US Air planned on "down-sizing" one quarter (not quite sure on the exact nubmer) of the mechanics if the judge threw out the contract - the judge said "would you rather lose 25% of your workers or all of them?" Good point.

I, for one, hope that US Air and their employees will come to a resolution that is fair for all - I would hate to see the airline go under.

In the meantime - I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Happy travels to all!
