Usair--new refund date

I took this off another message board(thanks to the poster) and hopefully it's accurate.

Date: 10-12-04 13:14
Was contacted by US Air this morning. As of 10 am today, they changed their policy. Anyone slated to fly between now and December 15th ( not October 31st as was recently shown on their website) to GCM can now make a penalty free exchange of tickets.

In my case, we were to fly to GCM on 11/17. I can now change the tickets, penalty free, but must rebook and fly by December 15. No full refund available at this time.

If it turns out that US Air doesn't fly on the dates I had originally booked, I would be entitled to a full refund. But that is a wait and see.

I had really hoped for a full refund. But at least I do not have to pay an additional $200 on top of what was paid for GCM flights.

When I posted the above I wasn't thinking along the terms of they're NOT flying into the island but after hearing that American and Delta aren't going in until Dec. 17, perhaps refund isn't really the right term. Cancellation is more appropriate. Wonder where they got these dates from...is the Cayman gov't passing along info to them or were they just bombarded with calls requesting refunds.

At this point I'm not sure anything I read anywhere is accurate Another poster insists they still have a flight in to GC before Dec 15. Guess everyone's on their own and has to contact their airline directly to be positive.

Had to cancel my tickets to GC for Jan 2-11 since condo isn't taking guests until Feb. Usair charged me the $100 change fee per ticket(7). I spent 30 min with various people, remained calm, explained situation however it didn't help. One woman said I could 'wait it out' to see if Usair changes the policy but once I make a change, no getting my money back. Since the direct flight to Aruba was filling up fast, I decided to take the loss and change. At least the airfare price changed during the time I was on the phone per ticket by $200(less) so in a way, I don't feel too bad. Still I had GREAT airfare rates from PHL to GC for $288 EACH and one was a direct flight! Paying $580 each plus 100 change fee to Aruba and it not being my first choice(sorry Arubanites)wasn't pleasant.

I do think part of the problem with Usair not refunding/crediting in full is their own situation and/or the Cayman govt's statement that they'll be back and running mid-Dec.

I did however read somewhere either on this board or another, a poster stating that their airline(Delta?) wouldn't charge the change fee if they got a letter from their respective condo/hotel stating it wasn't habitable.

To Filter14,
I had the same problem with US Air. My trip to GC in Oct. wasn't possible so we switched tickets for Provo and they charged us $100 per ticket. A few days ago i found out that they had extended it till Dec 15th and I called them and we are now getting our $200 back. We had to call their accounting dept. and they were very nice, and said they would refund our money. If I can find the # I'll post for you. Don't give up yet!! We did get our money back!!

Yes--- agree with Sandy- all our wedding guests had the same issue- and had already made the flight change to Nassau before they canceled flights through Dec 15- my mom spent hours trying to get them to refund- wouldnt budge since she already changed her ticket- I called and got someone else on the phone and they did refunded the $200 in 5 minutes. Keep trying until you get the right person on the phone and explain our situations.

Thanks for the info/advice. The only way they'll refund it is if they're not flying there and I'm over by a week or so. Good news for GC but not for me I will keep checking their site in case they change the dates.

Not sure how accurate the info told me was, but a travel agent said they were not going to be flying in until December 1st with tourists.

It appears Usair dropped their direct flights-- out of PHL I mean.
