We are planning a trip to Cancun and have heard that the beaches on the eastern side have a tremendous undertow. Has anyone stayed at the Westin or Sun Palace-and if so, can you swim off their beaches? Any other recommendations?

I have stayed at the Westin and at the Conentinental Villas. When I was there in May the sea was very, very rough. During the whole week flags were flying to warn people away from going into the water. From the Westin in October the sea was very calm. I did not hear anyone complain about undertow or other problems with the exception of jelly fish in the area.
