Turks and Caicos Literature
#2
The GM for Le Vele, from South Caicos, wrote a book on it's history--he's amazing!
I don't have contact number but if you email Le Vele Resort I'm sure he can steer you in the right direction to get one.
There's a very condensed version in Fodors In Focus Turks and Caicos (Amazon)
You can also look up Wades Plantation on North Caicos (and even visit the ruins), or look up the museum in Grand Turk. It's a nice little museum--
Grand Turk claims to be Columbus first American landing (they fight with San Salvador Bahamas for the honor)
Senator Glenn landed in Grand Turk after orbiting the earth
There are tons of pirate stories!
Grand Turk actually has visits from the Her Majesty, and the largest collection of "message in a bottles" in the world
With this it's actually a fairly new (1980s) destination and everything is quite modern and upscale

Thanks for the ideas. I see myself cooking and reading and swimming and enjoying the everchanging view at our rental while considering a day trip to middle/north or grande. But the cruise ship area gives me the shivers in a bad way!
