Travelling to Montego Bay

Has anyone any experience of staying at smaller hotels/B&Bs in the Montego Bay/Negril area? Myself and partner are travelling on a limited budget!

jim

Never stayed at a B&B, but if you are beach people, please choose Negril. There is no comparison

Rates on island generally go down around 15 April or 1 May (ditto airfare) when you'll escape the springbreakers, get better weather and enjoy mango/passionfruit/litchi/otaheite apple season. You'll also come back to the States with the sense of extending your summer, having missed the raw cold and rains of Spring. Ease into Jamaica by going luxe and away from the crowds by staying a night or two at Drambuie, the Winston Churchill estate atop a mountain overlooking Bogue Harbor and MoBay ($150/night for 2 incl.breakfast).Or at Reading Reef Club at the base of the mountain, about 15 min.west of town. Then, head for the South Coast. Base yourself in Sea Ranch Cottage right on the ocean at Bluefields Belmont/$95/night for 2 or $635/week from which you can visit Negril for a daytrip (1 hour)without having to stay there. Or head for Treasure Beach to Irie Rest or Ital Rest of Jake's or the new cottage which will be available at Unforgettable this summer ( see www.treasurebeach.net and www.jamaicaescapes.com). Do a combination or stay at any one of the above for a week. Private transfer and excursion guide services as well as a full range of cooks/local snorkeling/bush/hiking guides and transport available. Airfare discounts on AA and AJ also available
