It was at some point on my 2nd and last day there that things went sour in Ciego and the wheels came off the bus, so to speak.......

..........(to be continued)........
I went for lunch at what appeared to be a reputable restaurant. They had a doorman, so that in itself, conveyed some sort of importance. Lunch went down well and I was stuffed. I paid and out the door I went. I almost right away started feeling dizzy and went back to my hotel for some rest. That was odd. I managed to go out again for a walk around not too long after. When I returned, I was still feeling rough and wouldn't you know, that fine lunch that I thought I had, made a violent exit from my stomach to the toilet bowl. I tossed lunch alright! Folks walking past my room must of wondered how a grizzly bear made it to Cuba and managed to get a room at this fine hotel! People, I hadn't been that sick since we raided the old Dean's liquor cabinet in college and that was a colossal feat in itself considering that I never went to college.

Now to be fair, there might have been one other culprit other than the restaurant. I remember a couple of times buying bottled water and noticed a funny smell and taste. I drank it anyways, Yeah, we should always check to see if the cap was not previously opened and when I re-tried opening the bottle(s) they made a click sound anyways even though I had already opened them. A lesson learned to thoroughly look at the cap when opening the bottle.

What worried me was that had to catch my 1:30 am bus to Holguin but after a few more rounds in the bog, I was miraculously starting to feel better. So much so that I managed to survive that 5 hour bumpy bus ride to Holguin without incident. The sun goddess that I caught a glimpse of on a wall in Santa Clara must have been looking out for me.

Not much else to report. Once in Holguin I got a taxi to take me north to the beach to meet up with CDN friends.
Wouldn't you know it the guy who drove me to the beach hotel yapped the whole way telling me his life story. I could barely understand him blah blah blah blah blah, for a good part of an hour until hepulls the car over and IRONICALLY asks me if I have a pill he can take. He had a headache! How did he think I felt! I fished around for a pill in my luggage, gave one to him and took one myself!

Eventually I made it to the beach, Tired but safe and sound.

The ocean - Holguin province.

End Of Story

😄 Shame about the stomach incident. I liked your taxi story. Chatty drivers do my head in sometimes.

Yup. I've spent many hours hugging the toilet bowl in Cuba. Some alcohol related and other times I just couldn't figure out what the cause was. The day before a travel day, I'm extra careful about what I consume. Especially if flying.

Hours?

--------------------
CubaJunky has this written on their website about Cuba......

- In this country there is no gasoline, but cars are all over the road
- There`s no food, but everybody is cooking dinner
- They have no money, but everybody is dancing and drinking rum.

Sure, there are people who are having a hard go of it and certainly not everyone is driving, cooking, dancing and drinking but everywhere I went there I could feel, taste and witness the spirit of Cuba, and it is, let me tell you, far from dampened or defeated.

Hours? Si. Keep in mind I've spent about 3 years in Cuba. The hours in the bathroom isn't a daily occurence. Not usually anyway. Lol
