Planning a tropical trip with FF miles. St Thomas is doable.

Young couple so needs to be fun but safe, hotel recs please? Probably 5 or 6 nights.

Have not been to the Caribbean before, so please send tips.

Should they stay in St Thomas or ferry over to St Juan?

Where can I find the ferry information.

To make meaningful hotel/resort suggestions we need an idea of there budget. Please give an actual dollar range not some nebulous term like "affordable" or "won't break the bank".

When are they planning to travel? It makes a difference in hotel costs.

FYI - on average you'll find staying on St. Thomas will be less expensive than staying on St. John (not St. Juan - there's no such place unless you mean San Juan, Puerto Rico).

For young first timers, I would look on the east end of St Thomas. Lots of options in hotels (from the Ritz to Sugar Bay) and condo-hotels (Sapphire, Secret Harbour)at various price points. Close to Red Hook for fun and food, as well as the ferry to St. John and Tortola. What sorts of activities are you/they looking to accomplish?

Young first timers, not sure about the budget yet. But not low end…..more mid range. Not the Ritz.

I am hoping to use points for hotel if location is good and safe area. That plan may not work.

I will check out the ones mentioned. Wanted good beach access if possible.

All of the places I mentioned are on beaches. There are places overlooking the water, with beach access and there are places with direct access. As I said, go look.

i've stayed at secret harbour twice and would happily go again. great beach, has good snorkeling, fun beach bar. the units are large with well equipped kitchens. good sized decks/patios too. i prefer buildings 3 & 4 as they are away from the restaurant, etc and a bit more quiet. buildings 5 & 6 (not beachfront/less expensive) have nice views of the bay but i don't see them on the map so not sure what that means.
you will need to rent a car as no you can't walk to anyplace. red hook is close, also a good grocery is just a short way.

Secret Harbour is now two separate operations: the Beach Resort and http://www.secretharborvillasvi.com/ on the hill.

Joe: The only hotels for points would be the Marriott, the Ritz or the new Sugar Bay Dreams. The others are condominiums.

I can use my american express points on the hotel.

It shows up on there site membership rewards. I will call first and verify with hotel.

Secret Harbour is great for a number of reasons - good location, very nice beach with a few palm trees for shade, nice restaurant/bar on site, and wonderful snorkeling on site in Nazareth Bay. Hard to go wrong IMO!

Another great Secret Harbour fan. Loved the snorkeling there. Saw my first octopus. The view from the condos was great. The only negative for us was tht the pool was up a lot of stairs & not near the beach.

TPAYT: Lots of people like the pool where it is. ;-)

What about pleasant point? Tripadvisor has good reviews.

Point Pleasant is on a hill, tiny beach. Great views.
