It depends on what you are looking for in a vacation - St. Maarten is a more developed - tourist oriented island. If you like the nightlife & casinos, etc. St. Maarten has a lot more options for nightlife and shopping, etc. In the daytime it has great watersports.
St. Kitts only has one casino and not a lot of nightlife. It is for the more laidback traveller. We prefer Kitts because it has more of what we want - great snorkelling, interesting beaches ( black sand), the rain forest, etc.
