St Lucia - Where to Stay

We have been attracted to visit the great scenery of St Lucia for the first time and will be there for a week before heading to Grenada. We like beaches, scenery, hiking, adventure, food, rum, but not sitting in the same place for too long. We enjoy a bit of luxury, but would probably never be seen at an all-inclusive resort - other than for maybe a lunch or dinner in a great restaurant with a view. Where should we stay on St Lucia ? Well located cottages, condos, apartment/villa style resorts or rentals are of interest. Would greatly appreciate your help ?

Without knowing your budget or how long you plan to stay, I'll recommend these properties:

Tikaye is a beautiful hotel, very private but you need transportation and stamina to climb up and down the steps to the beach.

Anse Chastanet is also stunning.

We will stay on St Lucia for 5 nights only before travelling on to Grenada and would prefer to see as much as we can after hiring a car from the airport. Therefore a resort would probably be not as preferred as a cottage/condo/apt. Location to see the island is important. Ti Kaye does look good though as it is centrally located on the western coast. Thank you Odin.

We too are going to St Lucia and found some wonderful places on Airbnb at very affordable fees. Wondering if anyone has a recommendation for car rentals as there seem to be several local companies there. Is a SUV or 4 wheel drive necessary to tour the island?
