St Lucia? Other Islands?

Hi Folks....we are looking for a great spot for 10 day honeymoon, any feedback is much appreciated...cost is not much of a concern. We'll be going in first week September. We'd like a great suite or villa with romantic views..a plunge pool is a must for AMY!! Secluded, but "some" nightlife required. Beaches and pool, scuba and watersports are always a necessity, however, if there were some golf nearby, it would cut my 'beach boredom' significantly!

We are also considering Mexico and Tahiti is a LONG SHOT. Beautiful, but too far from New York City.

Any Ideas????

Thanks
steve

You are risking hurricane at that time of year...if you want to do the Carribean, choose a Sandals or Beaches resort...they have a hurricane guarantee...have fun...haven't been to St. Lucia, was going to go there this year, but something came up...the Sandals St. Lucia Golf resort is fabulous...

Hi Steve,
Congratulations on your upcoming nuptuals! We honeymooned in Tahiti many moons ago. It was wonderful, but I have heard great things about St. Lucia as well. We are going to be there in April and are staying at the Hyatt, but many honeymooners report that they loved Ladera and Anse Chastenet. I know Ladera has rooms on a hillside with one wall open to the outside with incredible views and plunge pools. I have heard people splitting their honeymoons between Ladera and the Jalousie Hilton. I can let you know about our experience when we return, but I'm sure you will get many responses before that. Other forums with information are www.caribbean-on-line.com and www.wheretostay.com
Good luck!

My husband and I honeymooned at Sandals St. Lucia during the first week of September 3 1/2 years ago. We had no problem with hurricanes, but I do remember it was extremely hot and humid, especially if you are a northerner like we are - it was tough to get used to.
The all inclusive resort is a great idea for a honeymoon, because after the ceremony we just felt like relaxing and not having to think about anything. As far as watersports go, Sandals has it all, including golf. The food and nightlife were fantastic, and it was fun to meet other couples who had just gotten married, many on the same Saturday as we did. I remember that there were many couples from Europe there as well. It gave the place a kind of "international" feel to it, which we enjoyed. The resort is beautiful, especially the pools.
On the negative side, we did rent a car one day to drive the loop of the island and I did get a bit distressed to see all the poverty. Hidden in the resort, you won't see any of it but prepare yourself if you venture out, and the ride to and from the airport was a bit depressing. We went charter fishing and didn't catch a thing, but I enjoyed the scenery (especially the Pitons) from the water. I also was looking forward to a nice beach, but out of the 2 resorts Sandals had on St. Lucia at the time, we stayed at the larger one with the golf and the beach there was not the powder-y white sand I wanted. It was pretty rocky. The beach was better at the other resort, which you can shuttle bus to. We spent most of our time at or in the pools, which were great, but it is not a beach spot. If you want beach, golf and watersports and are looking for a beautiful and special occasion resort, go to St. Johns. There are several there you may prefer

We're going to St. Lucia in July- We're staying at Jalousie Hilton. I was set on Ladera but my husband vetoed 7 nights with no air conditioning- But Ladera looks awesome!

To get you off on a totally different plan... what about a combo of Anguilla and St. Barts? That would be the ultimate, in my opinion. We went to St. Barts for our honeymoon in May 2000- highly recommend. We only had a week. Check out Cap Juluca on Anguilla- www.capjuluca.com - I was set on going there until hurricaine Lenny close it down for spring and summer.

You said cost was not a concern!

You might want to check out Windjammer Landing in St. Lucia. I will going there for the 3rd time on Sat. I also live in NY and can't wait to get out of this storm. The Winjammer has beautiful villas with private plunge pools. They go up a hillside and some have fabulous views over the water with Castries and the Morne Fortune in the backround. The sunsets are also great. There web sight is www.wlv-resort.com. I highly recommend them. You might want to split up your time at one of the resorts in the south and then the north.

Steve --- Even though it is far, I would not rule out Tahiti as a very romantic honeymoon spot. We spent a week last summer in Moorea and it was the most romantic spot we have been. All the hotels are individual thatched roof bungalows and some of them are over the water. It was a long flight, but I felt it was worth every minute. The only thing I would do different next time is stay longer. I have been to St. Lucia and it was a nightmare trip in my opinion. I would never return there.

We went to Ladera for our honeymoon last April and it was wonderful. You don't need air conditioning b/c the rainforest has an amazing breeze that flows through your room. We thought the breeze was going to lift us off of our bed most nights. There is a private plunge pool in the rooms and very romantic. There are many things to do around Ladera: drive-in volcano, rainforest tours, mineral springs, rent a Jeep to drive around the cliffs of the island, climbing the Pitons, bike riding, beaches, nice restuarants, local restuarants, local pottery places, water ferry rides, white tablecloth dinner on the beach, restuarants with shows, snorkeling, scuba, sailing, or just relaxing on the beach with a cold drink. The office will book everything for you and bill it to you room, so that is very convienant. If you are looking for a more commerical place, you need to go to Sandals. This is a very relaxed, romantic spot. We are already wanting to go back. I highly recommend it. You can rent a car or take the ferry to Castries, the main city. They have shops, a festival on Friday nights, and all the commerical stuff. It is definately worth the trip!!
