St. John's information please
Hi,
We're going to St. John's in late May. Any restaurant suggestions. We like seafood, and ma and pa type places are just fine.
Do you need to set up reservations for dinner, jeep, and day tours/snorkels ahead of time. We heard you can rent your own boat . Sounds great, but realistic?
My wife picked the Westin over Caneel Bay. She heard the later had no phones, air or tv?? She isn't into "roughing" it.
We're happy laying around doing nothing too!
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Frank

do a 'search' on this board: there are tons and tons of info on the subject and they are very recent ! I don't think anyone can add anything to that !
Just type "Westin St. John", then "ST. John restaurants" etc, etc. and your questions will be answered !
You're asking a question that seems to come up almost everyday ! Ask about less usual stuff and people will try to help, but (no offense) this is getting somewhat boring.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lime Inn has delicious food.. While I have never been to the Westin, I love Caneel. The grounds are gorgeous, and their seven beautiful beaches cannot be beat for tranquility and privacy. They do have AC and phones are located very close to all guest quarters. No matter where you stay, have a wonderful time. St. John cannot be beat.

Hope the rudeness of the previous writer does not keep you from making other inquiries. Such commentaries serve only as a poor reflection of its author.

Small world. I posted a very similar note on this web site about a week ago (4/11), and got three very careful and helpful responses - mostly reassuring. My posting was titled "Conflicting Opinions on the Westin St John" (now # 180 on the postings list).

Caneel now has A/C, but no TV's in the rooms. If you want a phone they'll loan you a cell phone for free.

The beaches at Caneel are vastly superior to the one at the Westin. The Westin has a much better pool and usually costs quite a bit less.

There are boat rentals at the Westin.
If you want a specific daysail on a specific day, you may need to reserve early, but if you're flexible you can make arrangements on short notice.

First and foremost....if you can change your reservations from the Westin to Caneel, do so today. The beaches at Caneel are much better, and what could be more romantic than a room without a TV or phone? Otherwise, it's just like being in a Hampton Inn in generic suburbia, USA. Also, many boats are in front of the Westin's beach, and those boats have to put their wastes somewhere. Change to Caneel. You won't regret it. I promise.

Restaurants we loved in St. John are
Skinny Legs in Coral Bay
The Fish Trap in Cruz Bay
Equator (at Caneel Bay)
Morgan's Mango in Cruz Bay
Anything from one of those West Indian shacks.

You will love it. I would agree with a previous writer that the Lime Inn in Cruz Bay is a wonderful restaurant. Small but fantastic! Neat but casual attire for most restaurants. Would suggest you make reservations for the Lime Inn. We enjoyed it so much we ate there three times during our stay. We stayed at the Westin and while we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the beach at the Westin is not the best on the island. It is small and busy, due to the ferry going back and forth. Enjoy your stay.
