St. John Wedding Reception Dinner
My fiance and I are getting married in St. Thomas and are thinking about taking the ferry over to St. John with our guests for a wedding reception dinner. Any suggestions on where to eat? We heard about the Le Chateau Bordeaux...any other recommendations?

We just got back from St. John where we stayed in a villa. We primarily grilled out on the deck of the villa so didn't eat out much. The two main restaurants we did try were Chateaux Bordeaux and Asolare. Chateaux is a small, quaint little restaurant with lots of dark wood and white crochet tablecloths. It sits overlooking the Bordeaux mountains with a beautiful view of Coral Bay. It seems to be very windy in that area most of the time, so although they have a small outdoor deck, few people stay there very long and dining is indoors. Food was fabulous. Asolare is on the other side of the island and has a much lighter feel. Food was fabulous, with an Asian flare. They also have a larger, beautiful deck, with much less wind, and a beatiful view. Most people dined on the deck. There's a place next door that is a bed and breakfast and looked beautiful also. Don't remember the name. Either of these restaurants would be excellent (and expensive), just depends on the atmosphere you're looking for. Don't know about any other places on the island -- although apparantely a couple got married in our villa a while back and had the ceremony in the gazebo overlooking the pool and the bay.

You did not mention how many in your party. When you arrive on STJ Asolare is very close by. We did not eat there but it is very pretty and has nice grounds. Another thought would be Ellington's which is at Gallows Point, also close by at Cruz Bay. Bordeaux is nice with beautiful views but also higher up in elevation and it is a ride from CB. You would need taxis and make arrangements to be picked up after dinner. When we were there in November it was not windy. Let us know what you decide.

We were in St. John last August, and the best restaurants that we were at were Paradiso and Asolare. They are managed by the same people that own Chateau Bordeaux, and I can say that they are all equally beautiful. Definitely have it at Paradiso or Asolare, as they are near town and more accessible than the Chateau. By the time you got there, it would be time to leave! Seriously though, Paradiso has my vote, they have very wonderful gourmet fare and the service is wonderful. They also have a beautiful deck and are located right in town, so you will get to people watch too.
