St. John in Aug.
Hello to all !! Appreciate all that I continue to learn from you guys. Husband and I are going to Caneel Bay in Aug. What type of clothes should we pack especially since we will only bring carry on luggage. Do we need to dress up if going to the nicer restaurants (like Asolare, ZoZo's..) Should we just plan on wearing shorts and bathing suits most of the time? what about capris, are they needed? Hope someone will reply to this, I don't seem to have much luck in getting replys to my posts.

I don't know what the dinner attire is at Caneel, but in general St John is a very casual island. I brought a pair of long khaki pants for my husband and he never wore them. Docker type shorts, collared shirt (island, golf, polo) and either sandals or boat shoes are good for men. I really only wore shorts/skorts and comfortable shoes as we did a lot of walking. At the casual places, shorts, T-shirt are fine. We ate at Zo-Zo's, La Tapa, and the Lime Inn. You will be fine packing less there. As for shoes, I wore Tevas and brought a pair of flip flops and "dress" Tevas. Hubby wore his boat shoes and brought Tevas, plenty. Sorry if I bored you with the shoe issue, but some women tend to bring a lot of shoes. I pack more practical for walking. I'm sure all of the St John fans will be happy to answer any of your questions as you continue to plan your vacation.

Hi Brenandg, you did not bore me at all. You gave me even more useful info., i don't think i will have my hubby pack pants (he will be so glad!)
Yes, the shoe thing is great, i don't want to fill up my suitcase w/ shoes, so now I am only taking 3 pairs, one of which I will wear down. Hey, how did you guys like those restaurants you ate at (ZoZO's, Lime Inn, and La Tapa) ?
Again thanks SO much for taking the time to share your insights !!!

We liked all three, but Lime Inn was our best meal. The Caribbean lobster was excellent as was the mussels appetizer. No view though if that is important. There are so many nice places to eat on STJ that it is hard to choose! Zo-Zo's has a postcard perfect view of St Thomas. I had the Caribbean lobster here too and it was good, but just too much "stuff" all running together on the same plate for me. Some kind of white bean and red pepper mixture, topped by lobster, topped by artichoke stuffing. The other entrees that I saw looked good though. La Tapa is a great place to have a drink and appetizer or dinner at the bar. Wonderful escargot and great staff. We preferred to just eat at the bar here as La Tapa is on a busy little street and some of the seating is literally next to the road. Stone Terrace also looks like it has a nice menu, might try that one next time.
