St John Condo 2 bd/ba for two couples

Looking for a condo on st. John 2 bed 2 bath. We are traveling with another couple. We would like to keep the price under $350 a night. We will be traveling in Feb/Mar. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Townsend.
Do you specifically want a condo--or would a 2 bedroom house rental be ok?
Any idea which part of of the island you prefer?
How long do you plan on staying?
Above answers will help with results here.
You should have NO probelm finding something at or below your $350/night limit.

p.s this query should be "tagged" as US Virgin Island (not British)--which St John is one of.

A house would be fine too. We plan on staying 9 nights. Is there a better side of the island i think we are open.

You should first narrow it down to which area of the island you want to stay on. Coral Bay is much quieter and the "town" area is not as concentrated.

Cruz Bay is the busy little town where the ferrys arrive. Lots of restaurants and shops and sort of the hub of activity. What I like about Cruz Bay is that just about everything in town is walking distance. Not so much with Coral Bay.

So, if you want to more "away from it all" pick Coral Bay. Beautiful views with villas on the hillsides. Many people prefer it to Cruz Bay. It is about a 45 minute drive from Cruz Bay to Coral Bay.

We prefer the Cruz Bay side for the little more activity but everyone is different. There are hundreds of villas. Narrow down your search as to which side of the island you want to be on, then start looking. I think for first timers the Cruz Bay side offers a little more to do unless you just want to hang out in seclusion with your friends which is what many folks do on St John.

The Chocolate Hole area has loads of villas and not too far from town.

HI, I completely agree with Brenandg's desctiption of the differences. Personally, I prefer Coral Bay, its quiet atmosphere and stupendous views from the mountainsides, but I always make trips into Coral Bay to get great coffee (at the deli at Mongoose Jct, or the bookstore in The Marketplace) and visit the great little shops, all within several blocks walking of the pier.
Also, the grocery shopping is much better in Cruz Bay

St Johns BEST feature is its magnificent beaches. Some are closer to Cruz Bay, some closer to Coral Bay. So either way, in the course of 9 days, you'll see lots of areas of the island as you visit and find your fav spots.

Since you are two couples, perhaps try to find a villa that has separate bedrrom"pods" --many St John "villas" (i use the word loosely, as many are thankfully less formal than that "villa" sounds) i.e it is not uncommon to have to go outside of the main house, across a patio or down some stairs, to get to a bedroom.

IF you want a condo, and more of a resort home base, there are many in the Westin St John complex, via a private group that rents them out (name avaialable from me if you want it--wil have to research this site) or via Redweek where timeshare week owners rent out their weeks. There are lovely two story townhouse style condos with two large bedrroms upstairs, with private bathrooms attached, and pools shared by groups of condos , as well as the large one in the main resort area.

Whatever you choose, you will have a great time on this beautiful island!

Here are a couple of links to get you started.

You are traveling in high season, so rates are higher. I would avoid Presidents Week in February as it is one of the most expensive times to travel. I very highly recommend this forum.

It offers a wealth of information about St John (no "S") and has a really nice group of regulars there. Try narrowing down your search of villas that meet your criteria. For example, many only have AC in the bedrooms and some not at all. Not a huge issue in Feb/March. It can be a little daunting with the number of homes although I had to laugh at my post of "hundreds", LOL. I think scores would be more apprpriate . Good luck in your search!

Forgot to add one thing. Don't necessarily limit your search to just 2 bedroom/2 baths. Sometimes they charge less if you are not occupying all of the bedrooms.
