St. John car rental - input please

I need to rent a car on St. John and will be staying at the Westin. Has anyone had experience with O'Connor car rental company? They are convenient, but I want to make sure they are a reputable company. Also, we will have 6 adults and a 1 year old, which puts us in a Durango or Highlander SUV if we want to travel together. Any concerns with driving on the roads with this big of a vehicle and only all wheel drive?

Oconnor at the Westin is fine. No issues driving a large vehicle either - the taxis are all 1 or 1.5 ton pickups. All wheel drive is not required - the roads are all well paved and maintained.

Are you sure you need a rental car though? Parking in Cruz bay is nearly impossible. If you go out to dinner you’ll be better off to take taxis to / from town, at $10 or more per person each way - its part of the cost of visiting St John.

parking at most north shore beaches is also very very limited. Cinnamon bay is the exception, with more parking. For other beaches its a roll of the dice if you can get parking on any given day.

Having a rental is not a bad odea, just be prepared for parking challenges.

Be sure to reserve far far in advance, as demand is often greater than supply. .
