St. Croix-Where to Stay?

I plan to go to St. John and St. Croix in February. Any suggestions re: charming inns, small hotels, B & B's in St. Croix would be appreciated. Beachfront is preferred. St. John I am familiar with.
Thanks.

Can't tell you where to stay, I can tell you where not to stay. Avoid the Comanche Club. This was the spot 25 years ago, but it is really bad now.

The Frommers review is really out of date.

Last Feb, we stayed for a few nights at the Hotel Caravelle which is right on the water in town. We loved it. It's not a fancy place, but had everything we needed - nice pool, great restaurant and bar (open air), best location in town. And it was very reasonably priced. It also has a nice island feel - it's very colorful and staff is helpful and friendly. Check it out.

I echo Sharon's sentiments about the Hotel Caravelle. If you have your heart set on an inn though, Pink Fancy has an excellent reputation. You can check it out at http://www.pinkfancy.com/

You won't find anything inn-ish on with beachfront and, to be truthful, Pink Fancy is on the edge of the historic/tourist district and the location makes some people nervous. Friends have stayed there though and liked it a great deal. There are other inns as well, but they are further from town and the water. E-mail me if you have questions.

I stayed at Kings Alley hotel. It is not a fancy place, but the service was wonderful and the price was great. It is right on the water and there is a beach across from it. You can ride the ferry for a couple of dollars. There is lots of entertainment on the boardwalk, nice shops and taxi are one block away. If you stay in the area, and need a ride to any place on the island, go to the taxi stand and ask for JR.

We highly recommend The Waves At Cane Bay...
My wife and I just got back from 5 days in St. Croix, and had a great time. We stayed at The Waves At Cane Bay. (www.thewavesatcanebay.com) Nice room w/kitchenette, cable TV, nice bathroom, very firm kingsize bed, AC, balcony with table and chairs overlooking ocean, with yes waves crashing, beautiful sunsets. Free snorkeling gear, friendly and helpful owners. Restaurant onsite is good but pricey. Great place next door "Off The Wall" has excellent breakfast lunch dinner w/live music 6 nights a week, reasonable prices. Also next door, horseback riding. Next door to Cane Bay beach , the week we were there the tradewinds were up and made snorkeling rough. Best meal: Kim's (on Strand St. in Christiansted)...we went back twice. Get the Curry Conch w/seasoned rice..... be sure to visit St. George Botanical Gardens, was a highlight.

Pete,
It's nice to see someone else who really enjoyed Kim's. It's such a GREAT spot, but so small it just doesn't get noticed.

The shrimp creole is wonderful there!
