There's not much around the Carambola. About 5 minutes away (by car)(near Cane Bay) there was a variety store where we stocked up on drinks and liquor. I don't remember the name of it but it's near the hotel and restaurants at Cane Bay.
I thought Carambola had one of the better hotel mini-marts if you are in a pinch.

Most of the major grocery stores are more in the middle of the island. If you want to buy a fair amount of alcohol, it's probably worthwhile to stop at Kmart on your way to the resort. They have good prices on alcohol. Nearby is a Cost U Less for warehouse-style groceries, or a bit further down the road is a real supermarket. But if you are just getting snacks and a few soft drinks, you can probably do that at Kmart just as well. I think that's a reasonable diversion and worth your time because once at the Carambola (it's a Renaissance, though, not a Marriott), you may not want to make the long drive many more times.
The stores at Sunny Isles aren't that huge a diversion, but the stores on Centerline Road might be more on the way to the Carambola. Someone should help me here, but I think they're almost on a direct route from the airport.

The Plaza on centerline road is the closest big grocery store (with a good liquor section) - about 20 minutes away. It is on Centerline road and just about on the way from the airport to Carambola (instead of taking the turn up 69 from the airport, keep going straight on Centerline Road and you will see it on your right pretty quickly). If you are coming along the Cane Bay Road away from the Carambola, there is also a little Corner Grocery not too far past Cane Bay, where 80 intersects 73 (around the corner from Rowdy Joe's).
