Sandals question

I have never been to a Sandals and I really don't quite know what to expect. I understand that if you don't get the Suite Concierge that room service is not included, so my question is, what is the food availability on the 'off-meal' hours?

Also, which Sandals in Jamaica would be the best choice for a couple on their honeymoon?
I have been to 5 different Sandals, with and without Suite Concierge Service. There is almost always grill service until 4a.m., so basically if you don't have room service, you only can't get food between 4 and 7:30 a.m.
As for the BEST Sandals - NEGRIL, JAMICA by far! I have spoken with alot of other travelers and most people seem to have the same opinion! The best staff, service, etc. I actually went to Sandals Negril on my honeymoon, and have been to Antigua, St. Lucia, Dunns, and Beaches Negril. Go to Sandals Negril - you will love it! We just were back there in January 2001 and it is better than ever!

PS We decided on the Suite Concierge. It wasn't that much more $...and hey you both deserve it right! Best of wishes.

Thanks for all the input from everyone.

Natalie, I have a question--you said that it wasn't that much more for the suite concierge service for you? We were quoted at a price over $2000 more to get the suite concierge level room. What level room are you staying at?

Hi! We are in the less expensive category. We mainly chose the suite for the location. We wanted to be near the beach etc. Don't get me wrong...it IS spendy, but we just decided this might be the only vacation that we see alot of our room ? (instead of occasionally) I have heard some people get upgraded at no cost, although I don't know the specifics on that. Hope I answered your question? Do you have an idea what you want to spend on your honeymoon ?

I agree with the others. I have been to sandals Royal Bahamian, Sandals Ocho Rios (each for quick 4 day getaways) and spent 1 week for our honeymoon at Sandals Negril which I definitely think is the best! royal bahamian may have been more luxurious but the beach wasn't as nice and there is more more activities and nightlife at Negril.

we only got the suite concierge on our honeymoon but it is worth it! As someone said this is a romantic trip and may be the nly one where you spend a lot of time in your room. Its great having breakfat in bed delivered and there are many other advantages besides just the room service

As far as the expense and room category, we didn't have a "suite" , we chose the honeymoon beachfront room but added concierge service. the good thing about this room was it was right on the beach. We were on the first floor and our french doors opened right to the beach! I think the total cost of our 7 day trip with airfare from chicago and concierge level was less than $5000! This sounds like a lot but comeon its your honeymoon, spulge! Put it on the credit card if you have to, you won't regret it!

ooops! one thing I forgot to mention was about the upgrades. You may possibly get upgraded from like a gardenview room to and oceanview room, but . . . you cannot get upgraded to conceirge level from non concierge. If you don't go gor it and change your mind when you get there however, you can pay the difference and get concierge service to whatever room you are placed in without changing rooms.

allso upgrades are based on availability. Prime honeymoon time is June, August, September and October, Sandals is packed then and negril isprobably their most popular resort there is little chance of an upgrade during that time.

All this info is a big help. I agree with the idea that this is our honeymoon and we should splurge, but when I think about spending OVER $2000 EXTRA for the concierge--I just don't know.

We also have looked into one of the Superclubs as they include room service in all of there rooms. Also, it would be $1000 less than the Sandals room with the concierge would be. But of course, I have no idea which resort we would like better and of course, the last thing I want to do is make the wrong choice for my honeymoon.

We went to Sandal's Negril on our honeymoon in 1993. If I remember correctly, several of the restaurants are located right on the ocean and are very lovely, especially for breakfast!! I wouldn't spend $2,000 for the concierge service. You really don't need it as food and drinks are available almost any time of day or night.

Went to Sandals Dunns River in Jan 99 for our honeymoon. We loved it! Food, service, accommodations, etc were top notch. We were upgraded from Gardenview to Penthouse. Went to negril in Jan 00 but it was not nearly as nice. Food was not as good nor was service. Conceriege service was poor. Just returned from Grand Lido SS on 2/20/01 which was a second to Dunns. Food was exceptional and so were the included spa treatments. good luck!

Disagree with Sue - We also went to Sandals Dunn's River and then to Sandals Negril for our honeymoon in 1993. While Sandals Dunn's River property was newer, the beach was small with fences on each side to keep out peddlers and we didn't like that at all (not being able to walk the beach). Negril is on gorgeous Seven Mile Beach.
