Sailing the grenadines on the v/s mandalay

Greetings,

My wife and I are sailing around the Grenadines for a week on the V/S Mandalay over the New Year. We are seriously thinking about extending our stay 5-7 days and spending time exploring one or more of the smaller islands of the Grenadines. We are hoping someone will be willing to share their experiences in the area. All advise, recommendations and observations will be greatly appreciated.

Our primary interests are getting to know the locals, beach and snorkeling opportunities and an occasional clothing optional beach, if appropriate.

Thanks to anyone who can provide information so our trip is based on good information.

We did a private sailing charter through the Grenadines a few years ago and had a great time. Not sure which Ports of Call S/V (not V/S) Mandalay will make so it’s difficult to suggest which of the Grenadines you’d might like to visit for longer periods. Most of the Grenadines are small and getting between some of them isn’t very easy as ther’s only limited ferry service. It would help if you’d list the islands the Mandalay will be visiting. You’d also have to plan your (extra) itinerary so you end on either St. Vincent or Grenada in order to get a to start your flight home.

If it were me, I’d stay on either St. Vincent or Grenada and explore just one of those islands with perhaps a day trip to one other nearby island.

since you said you wanted to consider spending some time exploring "one of the smaller islands of the Grenadines", you should do some research on Bequia. We have only been there once - 9 days in November for a land based trip- so I am no expert but we fell in love with the island. It would tick most of your boxes- sorry, I do not have an answer about "clothing optional" though!

Is your sail a Grenada to Grenada one? If so, as Roams Around suggested, perhaps you could see a bit more of Grenada then I think you can get an SVG Air flight to Bequia from there.

Clothing optional beaches are the French islands, St Martin, martinique

i can’t think of a single one in SVG

i personally loved my time on Canouan. Easy day trip access to Palm, Mopion sand bar, Tobago Cays. Stunning! (Clothes required?)

You're sailing to and from Grenada. That's actually a lovely island, but if it's too busy for you, your best bet is Carriacou, which you can reach by fast ferry. It's very small and quiet, and there are a variety of lodging options. But there are no clothing-optional beaches, and I wouldn't even try it. It's terribly offensive to the locals.
