????'s re Timothy Beach Resort

Can anyone give me specifics on the beach here? What is the swimming like? Would you recommend water shoes, or is it sandy bottom? Snorkelling from the beach-how far? Thanks for taking the time to answer.

I was on SKB a month ago. The beach at Timothy is non-existent - washed away and now all rocks. Spend your time at Friar's which is just over the hill. Perfect beach, snorkling, great local restaurants with local food at local prices. Chairs, umbrellas, water sports available. Other snorkel spots at Ballast Bay and White Hall, just down the Southeast peninsula. Little hidden beach is Sand Bank, right across the road from the aforementioned snorkel sites. Very rustic with no amenities but also no people!
You will love it if you like an island that is underdeveloped, slow paced and with locals who have not learned to hate tourists yet!
I'm jealous - Cathy

Cathy's information is not entirely accurate. I have been to St. Kitts recently and stayed at Timothy Beach as well. It's a great place and the beach is fine. There are a few small stones right at waters edge, but you can get past these easily and then it is a lovely sandy bottom. The water is generally calm and that is why the main area for watersports for all of Frigate Bay is located right beside Timothy Beach.
The sand immediately in front of the hotel restaurant is not present( some-times it washes in and out), but only walk a very short (50 ft)distance to the watersports hut and there is plenty of sandy beach. The beach is about 1/4 mile long and the snorkeling in front of Timothy Beach is very good and quite close. It extends from about 40 ft off shore to the point and around the bend, where we venture on very calm days. There is also a fine restaurant at Timothy Beach called Sunset Cafe with generous green salads and wonderful crab sandwiches. Chaise lounges and beach towels were provided for guests of Timothy Beach. When you go to Friars you will have to rent chairs and eat from vendor beach shacks. The only other real restaurant right on a beach is at Turtle Beach. Sunset Cafe and Turtle Beach restaurants are inspected regularly by the Department of Health - the beach shack places are not. Friars Beach is a very nice beach, but the snorkeling is so so. Better snorkeling can be found at Timothy Beach, White House Bay, Turtle Beach, Cockle Shell and at the far end of the Atlantic beach in Frigate Bay. If you have any other questions, please please feel free to e-mail me. Beth ([email protected])

I was at TBR in Febuary. The beach immediately in front of the resort has been damaged by the swells from the south. Mother-nature will bring the sand back. Divers tell me that the sand is in a huge pile 1/4 mile off shore and it will return. The beach is sandy about 100 yards down and the snorkling is great in front of Timothy Beach Resort.

Stayed at the Timothy Beach in St. Kitts late last fall and loved it! Had a one bedroom suite - very nice - just like a one bedroom condo. Good snorkeling right out front, nice private pool with an ocean & beach view, friendly courteous staff, and though there were rocks right in front of the hotel, only a little beyond was a nice sandy beach. Enjoyed going out in the morning and walking on the beach or snorkeling right there.
Also, we could get to the Atlantic beach in about 7 minutes on foot. There were no water sports there and it was a bit rough for swimming, but it was fun walking along the Atlantic beach too. Couldn't imagine a better location in St. Kitts than Timothy Beach. Loved the island, the people, the scenery and would go back in a heart beat!
