Restaurant prices on Paradise Island

I've gotten some great info from this forum and hope you can ease my fears now. I'm taking the family (5) to PI in April and staying at Comfort Suites to use Atlantis facilities and save a bit. Don't mean to sound like a grinch, but are we going to be able to eat all week???!! Everyone keeps mentioning how very expensive the food is. We can fill in some with stuff in the fridge and whatever at lunch but would like a bit nicer dinners. We want some Bahamian experience in the dining. We usually just eat at places similar to Fridays's or Applebees or nicer Italian restaurants here and wonder about the price of similar there. Just wonder if we'll be paying more for food than for the room.

Richard:

We stayed at comfort suites this summer, July - August,2000. Thought the hotel was ok. The continental breakfast was not very good at the hotel. We ate in Nassau at Outback Steakhouse, The Poop Deck,Anthony's,Ordered pizza to the hotel, etc. There are a lot of great places to eat in the area. Most were reasonably priced. The Atlantis hotel is fabulous. So much to see and do. We loved our trip.

tracy

Richard,
It won't be that bad. Food is higher but not prohibitive. Remember the locals also have to eat and they can't afford the prices you see here either. The restaurants at Atlantis, etc. are quite expensive but also some people just like to brag about how much they spent!

Richard, the prices are not THAT bad, but yes they are a bit more expensive than in the states, however here are some suggestions that are good and won't break the bank.

For Bahamian, go to Conch Fritters (across from the British Colonial) or Johnny Canoe's (at the Nassau Beach Hotel, Cable Beach), they have the same
owner and much the same menu.

For a good and cheap lunch go to the Junkanoo Cafe, next to the Straw Market downtown Nassau.

There are several good places for food downtown and when you get to the Comfort Suites you can get a list of the restaurants in the area, there are also several on PI that would fit the bill as well.

Have a great time the Atlantis is AMAZING.

tweedy

Right across the street from Comfort Suites is Anthony's Caribbean Grille. Good food and reasonable prices. Down the street at the Hurrican Hole Center is the Blue Marlin. Service was not good but the food was. Murray's Deli at the Atlantis isn't too expensive and has good food. If you want to go across the bridge and into Nassau, Tweedy gave you good advice on restaurants.
Have a great time!
