Recent Biras info
Trying to get current info on Biras. I have read a bunch of very favorable reviews of the property but then read one very detailed unfavorable review, which said that new management took over in 2001 and the place really suffered in terms of service and food. Is this true?

Robyn, I know the negative review you're talking about. One guy posted that same review all over God's creation. I've seen other reviews since the new management took over that were favorable and in line with the historically high ratings. Think one was on wheretostay.com. At any rate, I'd like to see some newer reviews as well. I'll be at Biras for a week in late April/early May. I'll post a review when I get back. Good luck!!

Hi Robyn,

I am going to Biras in early March--I too will post a review. That negative report you refer to didn't worry me: he complained primarily about service and service is really the least of my concerns (aside from shopping & nightlife). I care much more about natural beauty, atmosphere, seclusion, food, location, daytime activities, and in all these categories Biras seems ideal. Will let you know, however!

My wife and I were at Biras before the change to the management that was blasted by the aforementioned unhappy vacationer. My reaction to that guy's posting was that it did not ring true from the standpoint that you would have to perform frontal lobotomies on the staff to have caused that much deterioration in service in the couple of years between my stay and this man's stay.
IMO, when you spend a lot of money for a vacation and have high hopes, then have a couple of experiences there that piss you off, then your perceptions start to snowball. My family was in the resort business and I grew up in it. I recall that 0.05% of our customers that started with unrealistic expectations, became bitter because the beach was not as long as they wanted it to be, or they simmered over an off-hand remark never intended as rudeness, etc., and then began to exagerrate or misinterpret every aspect of their vacation. We've been blamed for the weather... you name it.
I haven't been to Biras under the new management, it would be hard for it to live up to Jamie's excellent reputation and results in the Caribbean, but when one review stands out like a sore thumb at a well-respected resort, I would set it aside and look at all the other reviews. Likewise, I would set aside the rapturous reports which are can often be someone wanting to remember their vacation as having been perfect.
