QUICK CHEAP SNORKEL TRIP?

Any suggestions for an inexpensive 4 day 3 night trip in the Caribbean with great snorkeling the priority? We'd fly out from Atlanta. Time would be probably in Sept., which I think is when the hurricane season starts, right? We went to Grand Cayman last May which was our first Caribbean expereince and LOVED the snorkeling! Hoping to find it's possible to go for a short trip somewhere for about 1/2 the cost (which was near $3000). Any suggestions? Thanks!

Technically, hurricane season runs June 1- December 1 but you would be taking a calculated risk in September anywhere that is hurricane prone. The only place I can think of for your budget- and the snorkeling would be ok in some places, not great- would be Mexico. Look at Cozumel, Playa del Carmen or Isla Mujeres.

Thanks! We actually had looked once at Akumal Mexico; I read on Gringo.com that the snorkeling was really good there.

I agree with Cozumel. One of the least expensive destinations with really good snorkeling.

September is the highest time for hurricanes. Buy hurricane insurance and understand all the inclusions/rules.

We were in Playa del Carmen last Sept. 2 weeks after Hurricane Dean hit. The snorkeling is not as good there as it used to be.

Akumal would perfectly fit the budget and snorkeling requirements.

I've been on a Caribbean island during a hurricane (Sept 89, Hugo) and now I avoid hurricane season!

I agree with everyone else. Cozumel or Akumal. From atlanta, Delta flies direct to coz--also cancun.

When in Akumal, check out yal-ku lagoon. Great snorkeling.

Peace, Greenie
