Puerto Rico vs. Cancun or Bahamas--please help!
I am planning a long-weekend getaway in May; however, my experience in the Carribean is limited. My priorities include beautiful beaches(white sand and crystal water) and easy access from New York City. As far as hotel cost, I'd like to spend approximately $150-$200 per night. I've been considering Wyhdham El SAn Juan in Puerto Rico (mainly because it is easy and inexpensive to get to), but have heard mixed reviews about the beaches there. What are they like?

How does PR compare to Cancun or the Bahamas in terms of beaches? Any other suggestions?
Thank you so much!
annie

I think your talking about the El San Juan Hotel - wow, that's a very nice place. However, the beach at Isla Verde may not be quite the best. The city beaches (Isla Verde, Ocean Park and Condado) are nice, but not as spectaclar as Cancun's or Paridise Island's. In order to find an even better beach, check out PR's off shore island of Culebra. Also, if you have time, take the mountain highway drive - incredible! Also enjoy Old San Jaun, the Bacardi Rum factory and the awesome rain Forest.

Cancun beaches are beautiful - water is nice and clear but can get very choppy. You can also look in Riveria Maya - South of Cancun. It is on the Caribbean side and water is said to be calmer there. We are headed there ourselves this summer - far better deal cost wish as compared to Caribbean Islands.

Bahamas - take a look at British Colonial Hilton in Nassau - not far from the beach, Bahamas is quick to get too and this place gets rave reviews - only tourd it myself but read alot on the place.

WE loved PR but all the good beaches are a bit of traveling from the San Jaun ara where the airport is.

The beach in front of the El San Juan is nice but not white sand and crystal clear. If that is your most important criteria, then you may be better off in the Bahamas or Cancun. PR is very easy access from NY - should be able to get a decently priced non-stop from NY.
