Thanks for a smile (mixed with a few tears) this morning ! WOW five rescue dogs and some working as therapy dogs !
I wish more people would realize just how much joy therapy dogs give...for many in nursing home environments it is the highlight of their week. And even those who can no longer relate to humans, seem to summon up something in their past with the dogs. It's very special to see the interaction
KUDOS to you and to all your wonderful dogs !!

Cmcfong, that's so great that you were there for those dogs. Some dogs are born into such miserable lives until someone rescues them and gives them a better life.
I agree, pitbulls aren't bad dogs, just a bad reputation. Rottweilers get bad reputations as well. Any dog can turn out aggressive, and if that's the case, I never understand how some of these people get hurt by them, because if I had an aggressive dog, I wouldn't allow them to be running around in a non-fenced area with other strangers around. That's the owner's responsibility.
My mastiff is 94 lbs. She doesn't look it to me, but she doesn't have an ounce of fat on her, just muscle. She can eat whatever she wants and not gain weight. Not the case for my lab who is a little chubby himself.
A few months ago when we were by the beach and the dogs were in the water, there were two english mastiffs there. They went in the water as well and looked like hippos!

Marion, you make a really good point. I took Jumpin'Jack Flash into a rest home recently. He is small and gets in a lot of laps. This one old man was sitting in his wheelchair in the corner of the room. His head was slumped down and the staff person with me said "Oh, don't even try with him. He doesn't talk to anyone." Undeterred I asked him if he would like to meet my little dog, Jack. He sat bolt upright in his chair and said "You know I had a little dog named Jack when I was a boy...." and went on at fullspeed for about ten minutes. The staff people just stood there dumfounded. Amazing what bridges an animal can cross, isn't it?
Christine, these guys went from a hellish life to paradise for dogs. Each one is cherished. We have been repaid by each of them.
As you may have guessed I am besotted with my pups, thanks for letting me talk about them this morning.

cmcfong,
When you said <font color="green">"The other three are certified therapy dogs</font>" I thought you meant <i><u>they</u></i> were in need of therapy...of the mental kind!
Then I realised that they were THERAPY dogs.
I have an adopted gal named Lu who sometimes I swear needs professional help!

what a great thread....all the while reading posts here and there, the word potcake came up and i didnt have a clue....well, now that i know, what a great thing. i have a gorgeous golden retriever named max beau-d's....he has a broad bear face and gigantic paws and he is absolutely a love....a gentle giant...he is trained as a visiting hospital dog and the pleasure that he brings to people is enlightening...he is a working dog and loves the attention without being selfish.....lol
we are currently trying to figure out where we will head for our vacation in august....so far its either the great exuma island or turks and caicos and if it turns out to be the latter i would be happy to bring a dog back to the states.
loved reading this thread....

CMC, I'm so impressed you saved those dogs. The worse shape they're in, it seems the more loyal & wonderful they are.
I have a strange St. Thomas goose story if you don't mind veering from dogs & cats. When the Renaissance here was open there were some geese on the property. One of the geese's mate got killed/died so the surviving goose took to sitting at the entrance to the lobby, usually accompanied by a feral cat that a couple of us fed (I managed the stores at the hotel.) The cat would snuggle up to the goose.
Anyway, the goose got hit by a taxi & somebody took her to Doc Andy (my hero again.) Andy fixed her up & named her Lucy & she hung around his office for quite some time.
Someone with a home/farm in New Jersey (maybe they also had a home here) met Lucy at Doc Andy's. I was at the airport one day & there was Doc Andy with Lucy in a big crate. She was flying commercial to the northeast since she got adopted by the NJ family & is now living happily there with a new best friend - a goat. I've seen the pictures. True story, cross my heart.

Carrybean,
What a sweet story! We just moved to a house that sits acrossed a private drive from a small lake (or large pond). We have about 22 wild ducks that have made this lake there home. They come up in my front yard everyday to eat catfood that I throw out for them.My outside tuxedocat just sits and watches them eat and does not try to chase them.
BTW...someone stole my dog yesterday, the pitbull Tony.I searched for him allday.
The reason that I know that someone stole him is that no one in the neighborhood has seen him.He was also not the type of dog to run off if he got loose. He loved us too much.He would have come in the garage, which was open.
I truly hope that he HATES his new owner and gets loose and comes back home.

Christie, please contact your area shelters ASAP and the Animal Control Officers. Call adjoining counties, too. North Carolina has a huge problem with theft of pets by people involved in dog fighting. If you have a photo of him, put it with notices and contact www.lassiecomehome.com to report him missing, please.
I hope Tony is back in your lap today!
