Lori, do not lose heart, We went to Point Grace last April and loved it for the gorgeous accommodations, spectacular beach, wonderful landscaping and pool area. We are not demanding people when it comes to service, and yes, there were a few snafus but we still had a wonderful time. We chatted with the manager every night at the happy hour and he seemed to really care about our experience, I will be sorry to hear if he was fired. I guess it is possible that the service has really gone down since last year, but we went without expectations of 4-Seasons type service so we had a great time. Jerome the pool/beach attendant had everything set up for us every day and even put our books and magazines in a plastic bag when it started to rain and we weren't there to retrieve our things. I think people changing their arrangements from Pt. Grace to Grace Bay Club are making a big mistake, I found GBC to be very unimpressive and oddly deserted (but the restaurant was good). Bottom line is -- if you are a traveler that wants constant attention/service then you probably won't be happy at PG, but if you are less demanding and tolerant of some Caribbean-type snafus it will probably be okay. We have been to some very nice properties and you can find issues about the service everywhere -- it's a different perspective in the Caribbean.

right on Chris: I agree completely. The caribbean isn't NYC, things don't move fast and service isn't like that at US resorts. However, clean sheets, working toilets and beverages/condiments sort of go without saying. For $400 and up a night, it is pathetic if pt. grace doesn't provide those things. I haven't heard one bad review besides eileens about grace bay club. So the rooms aren't as snazzy...who spends lots of time in their room anyway? The majority of time we spend is in sleeping or getting ready to go to the beach(which is lame if the sheets and towels aren't clean). what good is a luxurious room if you aren't going to hang out there? anon

hey chris
we were there presidents weekend. Were you? I think the people who hogged the pool chairs were plumbers. The fat guy bent down and down went his bathing suit, my kids got a good laugh. I'm not saying that point grace is awful but the service is even too slow for caribbean standards. The accomadations are very nice but they are also very nice at the grace bay club. but the service is excellent at the gbc, not point grace. the point grace is not inexpensive, so you expect good service. and yes eileen, i do expect four seasons service. If i didn't i might as well go to beaches. dread that thought. gbc is just a classier place than point grace. also there were too many screaming kids.

Hey Erin. I was there Presidents weekend. I forwarned my husband before we left that I had read that the service at PG was not very good. I understood that to be "carribean" slow, and assumed everyone else was too fussy. Its funny that now people are referring to me as demanding. This isn't about the waitress taking a long time to bring me my cocktail, its about a Hotel that is poorly managed and way understaffed. Its things like not being able to get a drink at the beach because they ran out of plastic cups, not being able to make a spa appointment because the receptionist didn't show up (again) and you can never catch someone inbetween an appointment, its getting to the hotel late at night and the restaurant not able to take you because its full and room service is not available. Did you see how the bartender washed the dishes??? yuk!!! At some point with so many things going wrong, it was funny.

Tom:

I walked back from the Grace Bay Club to Point Grace at night on the beach. It seemed to be a nice beach, but I do not think it was as secluded (more built up) as the beach in front of Point Grace. I understand and am not bothered by "Caribbean time" when it comes to service. My experience was one where they just couldn't get their acts together. They've got the facility, they just need management. I suspected this going in. You can read posts on other sites dating back more than a year that mention these same issues. I think they finally came to a head and they canned the manager who was obviously unable to fix the problems.

i agree with you dudley. I also read those old posts and hoped that the PG would have fixed their service problems but unfortunately not. It's really a shame because they have very nice accomadations. I thought the only difference in the beach area was that PG had cabanas and GBC did not. Also, gbc is closer to the club med which has a lot of activity but it really doesn't matter because everyone seemed to walk up and down the beach and not lounge very much. Eileen is the only person whose had a positive review of PG. PG isn't on Caribbean" time, that would have been an improvement. Also, my children were hungry around 5:00 pm and Carlon said the restaurant was closed and he had already turned off his cooker. They had to beg him to turn it back on. He told us to go to the sands. He finally did turn it back on,but begrudgingly.

I had a 1-hour massage there that was OK. It wasn't the worst and it wasn't the best. Problem is the little huts that the massages are given in are right next to the hotel. The guest who was in the room right next to the hut I was in really got into Peter Frampton. Not very relaxing.

My husband and I are headed for GBC on April 10th, and from all the research I've done and everything I've read here, it sounds exactly like what we're looking for. Has anyone come back recently? It looks as if there are couple of people who are scheduled to go in April--is anyone going to be there between the 10th and the 15th?
