passing through San Juan

Because of several factors, we'll only be spending one night in San Juan in April prior to a cruise from there. Suggestions for an overnight hotel (we'll have little time to look at much)? We'd prefer something that could provide transportation (free or reasonable) from the airport to the hotel and the hotel to the docks the following day. Any suggestions?

you will have no problem getting a public taxi to transport you. Just make sure that you negotiate the price before getting in. Some hotels do have shuttle buses to their property and you'd have to check with them to see if that is included.

No hotels in PR provide transportation from airport to hotel; or hotel to pier. You don't have to negotiate cab fare. $8 to Isla Verde , $12 to Condado. $16 to Old San Juan.

Yes, S is right, the Tourism Commission has all the Taxi fares fixed. They have people set up to dipatch you to where you ar going. There are some hotels in Isla Verde that is about 15 minutes form the port. Hampton Inn, Embassy Suites or if you want more upsacle, The Water Club or the El San Juan. In Old San Juan where the port is, there is a Wyndham right across the street from the port, and for a nice one in OSJ try the El Convento, a boutique hotel.
Ronnie

S and Ronnie,

Is the Excelsior Hotel still in existence in Santurce? It was on Ponce de Leon.
I used to work nearby and loved driving by the coffee roaster on the way to Hato Rey. Was it Bustello? Was that the coffee company there?

We've stayed at the Wyndam Old San Juan before a cruise several times. It's a nice hotel - walking into Old San Juan is easy(you're just at the edge of it). We had 2 suitcases on wheels and on cruise day, we walked to the ship. You are just across the street from the dock.
