Our lucaya

Has anyone stayed in this new resort? Our son has given us a week there and there doesn't seem to be much information about it on the web. Thanks

Look at grand-bahama.com; then click on Newsgroup. There are several trip reports posted concerning this resort.
I am considering booking a long weekend there in April. I have been researching quite a bit and have read mixed message board postings. Our travel agent, who we trust, says that she has sent a few people there and they all like it. The casino is behind schedule and won't be open until June. However, there is supposedly access to another resort's casino. I would also love more feedback also...

Not much on the web! Go to www.ourlucaya.com. It's a great web cite. We've been there twice in the past year, before they opened the last two phases, which happened in early December. The casino is now under construction, but not expected to open until late summer or fall, and that's directly from London's Club International, the casino organization that's building it and will operate it. There is little doubt in my mind that no other resort on GBI, and probably only the Atlantis complex on Paradise Island (for the rich and famous), comes within smelling distance of Our Lucaya. They have two of the best golf courses in the entire Caribbean, a choice of all-inclusive or not, a wonderful children's program, oodles of beach area, severel very nice freshwater pools, a convention center, weddings, etc., etc., etc. No, I am not a travel agent and not an employee working for these guys. The only thing that bothers me a little is the price. We've been going to GBI for 16 years (next trip is next month, watch for the trip report around 01 March), and when they finished the bulk of the construction in December rates went up a good 25% for high season travel. I wouldn't, at this point, go anywhere else on GBI. They also, by the way, have several lounges and a couple of nightclubs, and Port Lucaya Marketplace is a 5 minute walk across the street. Remember two things. Bahamians aren't in a hurry to do anything (when they deliver your first drink, order another), and these resorts are not like Hyatt Regencies in the states, despite the prices. Even new, they are not any more than slightly upscale hotels, with nice facilities and usually extremely friendly staff, especially the Bahamian staff. Try it, I think you'll like it. Also, check www.bahamas-mon.com under the Freeport message board for trip reports.

Danny

Hi Tweedy,
Glad you heard from Steve. He had a posting on one of your favorite "old" boards wondering how to reach you so I sent him an email about you posting here. Nancy and I make our annual sojourn to Freeport the 17th-25th of February. We're staying at Our Lucaya (Lighthouse Pointe). It would be great to sip a cold one with you guys, but if you're going the end of this month or are there now, that doesn't look like an encouraging time.

Danny
