Ocean Club Bahamas vs. Hyatt Aruba

My husband and I just don't know. We are going on vacation in early October and want some more comparrisons between the Hyatt Aruba and the Ocean Club Bahamas. We hear in October Aruba has chance of wind and some rain but in the Bahamas there are hurricanes. We hear the Ocean Club gets crowded, or would that be Atlantis? Please help us with comparrisons. We want mainly good weather.

IN OCTOBER ARUBA.WEATHER IS GUARENTEED.UPSCALE ISLAND HAS GREAT RESTERAUNTS DECENT CASINOS NO SCUMBAGS GRUBBING SELLING DRUGS OR BRADING HAIR. ISLAND IS SAFE BUT UGLY EXCEPT BY RESORTS.HYATT IS BEAUTUFUL WELL KEPT BUT CROWDED. ATLANTIS IS A COMBINATION OF A WATERPARK AQUARIUM AND VEGAS LIKE CASINO.NICE PLACE IN OFF SEASON BUT STAY AWAY IN PEAK TIMES.THE GROUNDS ARE NICE BUT EVERYTIME YOU TURN AROUND YOU JUST SPENT 100$.THEN BY THE BEACH AREA YOU GET THE USUAL SCUM BAGS FIGHTING OVER JET SKI RENTALS ,SELLING TRINKETS ETC.ALSO YOUNGER CROWD MORE ROWDY TOURISTS. OCEAN CLUB IS GREAT SERVICE PEACEFUL AND QUIET JUST 1/2 MILE AWAY FROM ATLANTIS.EXPENSIVE BUT WORTH IT.YOU WILL FEEL LIKE A PLANTATION OWNER WHEN STAYING THERE.ITS AMAZING WHAT DIFFERENCE A 1/2 MILE MAKES,BUT IF YOU WANT THE ACTION OF THE CASINO OR WATER SPORTS ITS JUST A SHORT WALK AWAY. ONLY PROBLEM IS OCTOBER IS HURRICANE SEASON AND BAHAMAS IS RIGHT SMACK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HURRICANE BELT.FOR WEATHER ARUBA IS BELOW HURRICANE BELT AND HOT DRY WEATHER IS ALMOST ALWAYS GUARETEED. ARUBA IN OCTOBER OCEANCLUB MAY-AUGUST.THATS MY OPINION FOR WHAT ITS WORTH.

The Ocean Club is suppose to be very very nice, small, first class and private. It is owned by the same corporation as the huge Alantis, the Disney of Paradise Island. Alantis gets crowded. Do a search on Ocean Club. I have received good info from a frequent guest poster. October is hurricane season, but we go to the islands at this time. It is very nice.

Maureen: We have visited both resorts, and they are vastly different. Ocean Club is on the smaller size, quiet and intimate, with the gigantic Atlantis very nearby if you are looking for casinos or lots of different restaurants. Aruba Hyatt is a beautiful resort, but huge. We were there in December and it was a madhouse-people "reserving" beach chairs at sunrise, etc. UGH. As for weather, we were at Ocean Club in May and it rained every day... obviously no guarantees, although Aruba is known for their sunny skies and lack of rain. I hope you and your husband have a great trip regardless of where you go!

My husband and I have stayed at both the Ocean Club and Hyatt Aruba. Ocean Club wins hands down in luxuriousness, classiness etc.

If you are considering the Hyatt, you should also take a look at the Radisson. We have just returned from our 2nd stay in 6 months at the Radisson. Newly renovated from top to bottom, inside out, it is pretty classy, but still the OC the OC is in a whole other class. Comparing the Aruba Hyatt and Radisson to the OC is like comparing apples and oranges.

Considering the time of year that you are traveling I would choose Aruba. Rainy season in Aruba does not officially begin until November, this on a desert island that receives about 20 inches of rain a year. IF you had any rain in October it should be in the form of passing showers.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to e-mail me.

Lisa
http://www.arubabound.com

I agree with ArubaLisa--the Radisson
should be considered. For information
about the Radisson I suggest you try
their website: www.arubaradisson.com
Also you should check out ArubaLisa's
website, "Aruba Bound!" at
www.arubabound.com
She has excellent pictures and information about the Radisson, other
resorts and about Aruba in general.

Further, October is hurricane season in
the Bahamas and wonderful weather in
Aruba because Aruba is outside the
hurricane belt. Aruba wins hands down
if going in October!
JanGail (returning for 3d visit in May!!)

My husband and I have stayed at the Ocean Club 3 times before it was owned by Sun International (owners of Atlantis). They have totally refurbished it and increased the size of the resort. It used to be 37 roosm & a few villas. Now it is supposed to be absolutely gorgeous, but it now has 107 rooms, suites and villas. They have added on 5 new 2-story buildings with comanding views of the beach. However, this takes away from the intimacy it once had.

Also, prices have increased dramatically with the minimum being $400/night and going up to $1,350 per night. An attorney I worked with just returned and had stayed there previously, but said it's really too pricey now. They stayed next door (as have we) at Sunrise Beach Villas.

The grounds have also been re-done and the french cloister area is gorgeous.

October is questionable for weather. We have been there early Nov. & been bothered by hurricanes and another occasion just rough waters. Much better in July.

I would check out Aruba. If you are flying from the East Coast, USA, I would definitely book a connecting flight that goes through NYC or something North at that time of the year to avoid going through Miami to change planes. Hurricanes avoid Aruba, but you have to be able to fly out (if you have a connecting flight) and would not want to be stranded in Miami.

Have fun.

Lois

My husband, five year old daughter and I stayed at the Hyatt in Aruba in June of 2000. It was wonderful. I think you would have better luck with the weather in Aruba at that time of year. Have not bneen to the Bahamas yet, but are scheduled to go this August.

The Ocean Club is beautiful. My husband and I were married May 5th 2001 at the French Cloisters. We arrived May 3rd and stayed until the 10th. If you are looking for a peaceful yet elegant setting stay at the Ocean Club if you want more action stay at the Atlantis. The Atlantis is nice especially the Royal Towers however, the hotel is huge. The staff at the Ocean Club pamper you, who could ask for anything more.

I recommend going to Aruba over the Bahamas, but I instead would gear you towards the Marriott Resort in Aruba. The Ocean Club is beautiful, but on a very small scale. At the Marriott, you have everything you ever wanted . . . big rooms, balconies, pool, beach, seclusion (certain parts), nice town, etc.
