Nonstop Flights from East Coast to Martinique and Guadeloupe from the US

Starting in December 2015, Norwegian will be flying nonstop from New York-JFK, Boston, and Baltimore to Martinique and Guadeloupe.

I haven't been too many places in the Caribbean (Grand Cayman, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico), but I have always been interested in the more lush locales of the Windward Islands.

Time to start research on these islands! I see at least a long weekend in my future on one of them.

Has anyone been to both, or could anyone shed light on which might make a better first visit and/or which is more compact for a long weekend?

More info from Norwegian here:
