Where will you be staying in Nevis? I found it to be very low key, not a place for shopping or lots of activity.

If you haven't sorted out your accommodation yet, you might try Hermitage Plantation Inn. Would be great for kids: pool, horseriding, tenis, snorkling etc. We stayed there last year and loved it. You can see a review, with lots of photos, at www.i-escape.com

Eric;

My husband and I have been researching what you are asking about for a long time. We finally opted for the Four Seasons Resort. There are positives and negatives about each and every propety obviously. It basically comes down to your budget and what you want from a vacations. For us at least we demand that nice somewhat calm beach be at our doorstep. We also like to visit places where our 2 children (5 & 9) can be assured of having the opportunity to find other children to mix with as well.
(with or without a "kids club".
Neither my husband or I golf, but we do like to walk a lot so pretty grounds and a long beach are great. We also appreciate a nice meal.

After checking into Nisbit Plantation,
a strong 2nd choice and Oualie Beach our next choice we believe we've made
the correct albeit most expensive choice for ourselves. Oualie seems like it would be more our style, but if there were no children nor kids club it would be risky.

Anyway the tickets are bought and the deposit is made at FS. Now all the
2nd guessing starts .(hence my reason for being at this site I guess. Good luck and write back here if you have any comments. (we're going in late March by the way)

Thanks for your replies. We will be staying in a private villa located on the beach near Oualie.It is only 5 min. from Four Seasons so we hope to use some of there kids programs if possble for "non guests"

my wife and i spent our honeymoon in nevis. we stayed at the nisbet plantation, which was gorgeous. it was offseason (june 2001), so it was very quiet.

nevis is an interesting place to explore by car. when we went, it was in the midst of a very dry spell, so it wasn't as lush as we expected. there's certainly plenty of poverty around the island, but the people seem very friendly.

my only concern would be a lack of activities for the kids. frankly, we weren't impressed with the beaches on nevis. phinney's seems to be the best, and even that was somewhat rocky, in our opinion.

as far as fun things to do, definately eat and drink at Sunshine's on phinney's beach. i recommend the shrimp or lobster platter and a pain killer (watch out for the interesting little guy walking around with the bottle of bad tequila).

also, take a trip up to the golden rock hotel - it's at the edge of a rainforest, and there are very well-marked paths to walk through the forest. you'll even see green vervet monkeys, if you're quiet.

hope you have a great time. let me know if you have any other questions.
