Nevis?

My family and I are planning to travel to Nevis in December 2024. I am having a hard time finding out whether this is a good choice since there is limited information online. I have read beaches are great, and I've read that they aren't. The same thing about snorkeling. We are a group of 10- five adults and five older kids. Nice beaches would be important but so would having access to activities. Is this the right fit for us? Any advice is welcome!

For the most part the beaches on Nevis have a brownish tint which in turn makes the surrounding waters h take on a steel blue hue so if you are looking for dazzling sugar white sand beaches and bright turquoise blue waters you’ll be disappointed. On the other hand, most of the beaches on Nevis stretch for long distances and are virtually uncrowded, even in the midst of high season.

The island lacks a near off-shore reef system so walk-in snorkeling from the beaches is very limited. The best (and I use that term sparingly) snorkeling is at Shitten Bay, off the coast of neighboring St. Kitts and is accessible only by boat. You need to take a private charter or one the the few “day sail tours” to get there and you see all there is to see in about 30 minutes. Simply put, no one goes to Nevis for the snorkeling.

Nevis has a rich history and has dense rain forest, dozens of old ruins that you can explore, there are miles and miles of hiking trails and many, many other pints of interest.

it’s a hidden gem if you are seeking an unspoiled old world Caribbean island.
