Negril first time - have some questions
My wife and I are booked at Couples Negril in mid-May. Neither of us have been to Jamaica before and this is our first Carribean vacation together. We usually do city vacations, but we've had an incredibly challenging year and are looking to completely unwind and do a lot of nothing for a change.
I've always wanted to go to Jamaica, just never had the chance and now we're taking it. But I have a few concerns about weather and sand fleas (yes sand fleas, I just came across this tonight).
From what I gather through research and postings, May is rainy, but how rainy? I've spent many summers in Florida and I know those intense afternoon storms that occur. Is it similar?
And what's with the sand fleas in Negril? Should we just expect to get bit? Is there anyway to avoid it?
I know it may be minor to some, but in our case it could ruin the vacation. We can rebook somwhere else, but I really don't want to if I don't have to. Can use some insight. Thanks.

Im going to Negril on May 10th to the 19th. i have been there 5 times. I mostly go in mid April but plans moved it to May. It is a rain time, but the showers only last about a hour if that and then it clears up again. i have never had a problem with any sand fleas myself! but maybe a good bug spray wouldnt hurt to have with.I think your trip will be fine. Have a great time there, it is a great place to lay back.

Just returned from Negril yesterday. I took "Off Active" (sweat resistant) insect repellent that had no smell to it, because I too had read postings about sand fleas being terrible. I sprayed my feet and legs every day - but my husband did not use it at all. Neither of us had any problems. Weather was beautiful except yesterday when we were leaving. Most days there was an afternoon shower for a short while and then it cleared up. Hope you have a wonderful time as we did! Seven mile beach is perfect!!
