I greatly enjoyed my visit to Puerto Rico. Beaches, Spanish colonial architecture, food, snorkeling, forts, nightlife, rainforest. Plenty of chances to relax, with plenty of other chances to be active. Is there another Caribbean destination similar in nature?

Check out St. Lucia in the Caribbean as well. It is one of the most prestigious island we visited. So much entertainment and lots to discover. I used serenitytvl.com we had a vacation to remember. Our excurations was the highlight of our party. Can't complain and will continue visiting St.Lucia.

I'll second St. Lucia. Went there for a week about 8 years ago and had a wonderful time. At that time we felt that it was very "third world", but we liked it and said we would enjoy going back.

Fast forward to Nov 2007 ... we stopped in St. Lucia for a day in port on a cruise. Boy have they improved a lot over the past years! Now we definitely have to get back there.

Another island we've always liked is Barbados. The have a really good infrastructure ... so it doesn't feel quite as "Caribbean" as some of the other islands. It's one non-US island that we felt we could definitely move to and live happily ever after.

Barbados has great beaches, restaurants (where you can dine by candleight as you look out onto the sea, the Bajan buffets, or just have the beach burger)forts, and nightlife. We prefer the south coast and you will find it more trendy. Many shopping opportunities, countless restaurants and that active nightlife you are seeking. You can walk around Bridgetown and get quite the tour. It's fun to drive and see the entire island. The east side is very rugged and the water pounds against the extremely large boulders. Northpointe (on the north side)is very secluded and the west coast has many hotels.
It doesn't have the spanish colonial architecture as it has a British atmosphere. Afternoon tea is still a ritual. It is a more populated island, but still has a Caribbean feel to it.

The place that comes to my mind is Bermuda. Please keep in mind that PR is a huge island compared to most in the Caribbean. You might also want to consider Mexico.
