Need Help!Caribbean Honeymoon AI June2010!
Hi,
My fiance are looking for an AI in the Caribbean for our honeymoon but neither of us have ever traveled there. There are just so many to choose from it is so overwhelming . We would like to stay a way from Mexico because we have both already been there. We would be going in early June 2010. We are looking for beautiful beaches, very relaxing, and good food. We would preferably like to go to a place that is more adult oriented as opposed to big family destinations. Any suggestions on which island or resort? Thanks so much!

The majority of the AI resorts are in Mexico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. You've excluded Mexico and most AI resorts in the DR are family oriented, so look at Jamaica. Negril is the preferred area. Adult only AI's included Couples, Sandals, and Grand Lido. I really like the look of Sunset at the Palms. It's is not adults only, but children are discouraged.
Antigua has a Sandlas, Galley Bay and Jumby Bay.
St. Lucia has 3 Sandals, Rendezvous, The Body Holiday Le Sport, The Jalousie Plantation, and Ladera.
Barbados has the Almond Casuarina Beach Resort.
With the exception of the luxary resorts in Mexico, I have not found many AI's with "good food". Exceptable/OK food is the norm especially if you are not picky.
St. Lucia and Jamaica are very beautiful Islands, but I personally didn't think the beaches were great. Especially if you have the expectation of soft, white sand and crystal clear water.
We have been to 2 Sandals, and if your interested just do your research so you won't be disappointed. They are highly overpriced and the food and other things not as advertised. We did book Sandals Dunn River for our 10th Anniversary next year as they are having a great deal, but we know what we are getting into.
I would also recommend Aruba. Eagle Beach is very nice and low key. It's a easy bus transfer to Palm Beach where there are tons of resturants, bars, entertainment and shopping. Check the Divi, Manchebo, and Amsterdam Manor. However, after being there and doing an AI hotel and seeing has easy and convenient it is to get to many fabulous resturants, I wouldn't do an AI there again.

hi kelseymarisa, welcome to fodors and congrats on your engagement.
early june is a good time to travel. high season is over and prices will have dropped. the weather should be good everywhere from the bahamas to aruba.
to be of much use to you you'll have to give us some details. first you budget. as specific as possible and does that amount include air?
where will you fly from? how long will you stay? prefer direct or 1 change or willing to change planes twice or ferry to final destination?
do you want any activities? day - golf, snorkel, fishing, zip-line, shop, tours or chill on the beach with a good book?
same for night - chill in your room with a movie or casino or dancing?
there are 2 kinds of islands. coral based - usually arid, fairly flat and with gorgeous blindingly white beaches. these have good diving, snorkeling, bonefishing. or volcanic based - hilly, lush, tree lined beaches.
about ai's. you do get to predetermine most of your price but they are not known for having wonderful dining. there are islands that are known for great food. are you definite on the ai?

Thanks! I think we are probably prepared to spend around $8,000.00 for everything. We will be flying out from Philadelphia but don't mind a connecting flight at all. We will want to stay Sunday to Sunday 7/6-7/13. We are more likely to chill on the beach for the most part (snorkel at one point) but there is a good chance we will need a day out of the sun at the spa, on a tour, or shopping. Either type of island would be beautiful, I am sure. we don't really have a preference. We realize that the food might not be incredible at an AI but we are most concerned about the cost of alcohol at a non-AI.

Could not have said it better myself, which is why we love AI resorts. We'll be at Sandals Dunn River in Ocho Rios during most of your dates. With the budget you stated, you have a great choice for any destination. For a 7 night stay, we can usually hit about $3,000 total. Less for Mexico.
Check some the destinations and see what interests you and then check some of the on-line booking sites for prices. That way you can post more specific questions that we can assist you with.
