Need Advice on Caribbean Vacation ASAP please
My husband and I are looking for someplace to go on July 18. We are planning on going for 4 days, 3 nights. We are both in our 20's and have been married 4 years. We have a 17 month old baby and this is our first trip away since he was born. So we are looking for something romantic and second honeymoon like to do. We would like to just relax and do nothing. We were thinking about St. John because of the direct flight from NYC to St. Thomas, but there are a limited number of hotels on St. John and no one seems too impressed with them. We are also considering Virgin Gorda or one the BVI but is it a crazy long ride from St. Thomas to there. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. We are also trying to avoid any hurricane prone areas as we are locked into these dates to go.

Caneel Bay and Westin on St John are both very nice properties. I am not sure who you are refering to saying they are not impressed with them. However, Caneel is a fantastic resort and very laid back do nothing kind of place. Perfect to bring a small child as it has lots of beaches, pool and everything you would want right there. The Westin has a nicer pool, but the beach is not the best.
I do not think you would make a bad choice with St John at all since it would be easy for you to get to. Have fun!

MIM04, couldn't have said it better. St. John has two terrific resorts, and there are also a couple of small inns like Estate Lindholm which have received great reviews. St. John is either a 40 minute or a 15 minute ferry dependent upon where you leave from on St. Thomas. We've been going there with our baby since she was 6 month old and its laid-back yet intimate environment has us going back for the rest of our lives.

Hmmmm, when I read this post I assumed staresti wanted to go somewhere without the baby ie. something romantic and second honeymoon like. So, St. John may still be a good suggestion but, in July I would consider Barbados. It is just under the 'hurricane belt' and the chances are less likely of really getting hit hard there. Check out Cobblers Cove or Coral Reef - definitely romantic!
