Mt Gay Rum - Barbados
Before traveling off to Barbados i was wondering if any of you have visited the Mt Gay Rum Company there ? Any knowledge / advice on the topic of rum production there in Barbados and whether there are tours/tastings would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

The Mount Gay Rum Factory offers tours every half hour, if I remember correctly. They last about 45 minutes and cost $10.00.
They start off showing you a short film about their history and they show you where they age it and bottle it, etc. Afterwards, they take you to the bar and the bartender gives you a sampling.
Honestly, it was high on our to-do list, but was the only thing we were disappointed with in Barbados.

Thank you for those comments. We would be very interested in knowing of any to-do's that are not on the usual tourist list and that turned out to be memorable experiences. Hope there are some smaller rum producers there.

Evening here and just having an aged Mount Gay now at about 6 times the price I expect to pay there. I always wondered how many other rum producers we could visit there. At one stage we were planning to go to Granada where I was looking forward to trying some of the under - counter 150+++ proof product
.
