Mosquito repellent - any ideas?

While on St. John last May, the mosquitos used me as a buffet. Anyone have any good repellent suggestions? Thanks.

Good idea Debbie, but unfortunately in the last year or so the mosquito population has increased drastically on many of the islands. They absolutely LOVE Skin So Soft, but OFF seems to work well. Take a can of RAID as well, because we have also had a problem with them in the rooms.

Heather, It's too bad you were on the inclusive menu for the skittoes. I have had good luck with any lotion/spray with 14% or better DEET in the ingredients. I have fished up in northern Ontario and have sat with just a bathing suit and not received any bites. I am a fair-skinned tasty morsel if I miss anyspots so I can attest to this stuffs use. Off and other outdoor lotions/sprays Muskol or the like should work. Good times on your next trip, and I hope this works out for you.

I agree with Cheri. The locals seem to prefer OFF. Trust their judgment, I think they have the experience. A can of raid also can come in handy. For the post bite itches, I use Benadryl Itch Stopping Cream. It works pretty good.
Good Luck!

Eat a lot of raw garlic or take garlic capsules a few weeks before leaving for the tropics and continue during your stay. They hate garlic. You will need to change your blood chemistry to keep the critters away. For any bites you might incure, meat tenderizer works pretty well. Bring a jar of Lawry's or whatever from your spice shelf and make a paste with water if you get caught.

Have fun!!
