Morritt's, First timer...Tell me
Tell me about Morritt's. This is our first trip to Grand Cayman Island. Should we make reservations for snorkeling, fishing, rental car in advance? Any suggestions? There doesn't seem to be much info on the East End. Any romantic spots?
We booked a week in mid June. Can't wait.

Rum Point is a nice place to spend the afternoon & catch the sunset. I'd definitely arrange a car ahead of time, but arrange Sting Ray City once you get there (unless you're only going to be there a couple of days). I wouldn't pay for a snorkeling trip unless it was combined with the rays. There are so many good places to snorkel free right off the beach.
You'll want to spend some time on SMB & around Georgetown, but you'll love the East End. It's the nicest part of the island. A romantic twilight supper at the Lighthouse at Breakers would be nice.

Hi Pam - If you do book one snorkel trip, it has to be Captain Marvin's.

Six of us took this when we went two years ago - it was excellent and it doesn't look like the price has gone up much for the all day trip. 4 snorkel stops: dive for your own conch shell - they will clean it and you can keep the shell, plus they mix up the conch in this super marinade sauce as an appetizer for lunch. (and don't worry about the conch - they are very careful about only taking the mature adults. Babies are put back). Then you get this great lunch set up on a beach. You also stop to snorkel with the stingrays and then two other stops which were great. At one they were feeding this huge turtle off the back of the boat with the conch scraps. It was the best day!!! And considering you get this great lunch (mahi mahi!) and four great snorkel stops and a conch shell - can't beat the price at $55.
Plus a place you have to try is the Cracked Conch Restaurant - right next to the turtle farm.

The fried shrimp dinner is to die for - I've never had better shrimp. And to start off the conch combo - excellent. And don't forget the Mango Pina Colada!
Sorry if I got carried away - but now I want to go back! Would love to hear a trip report when you come back to see what you thought.

Pam,
Ditto on Captain Marvins' boat. The first snorkeling trip I did in the 1970's was Captain Marvin and I still take his boat when I go snorkeling. Sting Ray City is a rare sight and you will really enjoy your entire trip. Book your trip early.

Thanks! Captain Marvin's sounds like a winner! I can almost taste the sea air. I made an agreement with my boyfriend that I would go fishing if he would go sailing. Have any suggestions on fishing and sailing? This place sounds like heaven. Our week is filling up. I want to do it all!

Hi,
We went to Morritt's 5 yrs ago and it was fabulous! Some of the best diving, especially if you're into underwater photography.I think they've built another building since then. The condo we had was great, overlooking the pool and ocean.Sting Ray City is a must!!!
Have fun!!!!

We just got back from one week at Morritts - We've been going to GC since 1993 but this was our first time staying at the East End (we have always stayed in the SMB area). Morritts was nice - Their snack/bar is good for breakfast but their restaurant for dinner at night wasn't very good. I would definitely go to the Lighthouse in Breakers - we had one of our best meals there this last trip. Sting Ray City is a must - hope you can get to do it. Rum Point is great for lounging around, swimming. Kaibo Yacht Club is very good for lunch - they serve dinner but we never made it there at night. It's right on the water with people pulling up in their boats. Take some time and go to Seven Mile Beach - Cemetary Beach is usually good but this last trip, we were a little surprised that it was kind of "messy" with alot of vegetation on the beach. Smith's Cove is excellent for snorkling. If you want good Italian food, try Portofino's near East End or Bella Capri in the SMB area - Also Casanova in Georgetown. Have fun!
