Marriott...good restaurants?

We're staying at the Marriott the last week in September. Did anyone try the restaurants there? Are they as pricey for b'fast & lunch at I think? Is there anywhere else within walking distance that is good and cheap for meals other than dinner?

Also, I haven't seen any info on bus system. Good? Reliable? $$$? Has anybody tried it?
We only want to rent a car for 2 or 3 days, and have heard taxis are expensive.

Thanks in advance...

Libby, We visited Aruba a few years ago...Stayed at the Wyndham. Not sure (or cant recall) where the Marriott is, but really you will be confined to the hotels nearby unless you go into town, i think. The busses worked fine for me, though they run on island time, not exactly when the hotel tells you, but within a half-hour of then! I think the buses are a dollar, taxis are more but they get to the hotel and to town faster. I thought taxis were worth it. I was happy to discover the Internet cafe in the "Pink" mall intown (Up on the third floor)...I even bought the t-shirt! This was a few (three?) years back, its been a few islands since then!

Libby,
The Marriott is not within walking distance of the other major hotels but the bus is reliable and only about $1.00 each way you can get a round trip for about $1.75, an excellent source of transportation which arrives about every half hour outside the hotels. I've visited the Marriott and the property is beautiful. Car rentals are a bit expensive, I'm not sure about the taxis. Food on any island is expensive and so are the drinks.

The Aruba Marriott is a bit separated from the other hotels but DEFINITELY within walking distance. Takes about 7 minutes to walk to the nearest hotel the Holiday Inn and then the other hotels are all within minutes of eachother. All the hotels with the exception of the Marriott are connected with a beachfront walkway (their boardwalk). The Marriott is a lovely hotel with great amenities.

Libby, the Italian Restaurant at the Marriott was very good. One of the best in the CAribbean. We ate there 2 times in one week. Didn't really try anything else nearby. Took cabs to other recommended restaurants.
Bart
