Mariposa Hideway and/or Restaurant Da Ginos

Hi everyone. I am going to Negril again this year and am trying out a new location. Last year we had dinner at the Restuarant Da Ginos which is about mid-beach. We were intrigued with the place and (for some reason) made reservations to stay there. We stayed at the Charela last year. Has anyone stayed here. I have found absolutely no reviews of this place other than the restaurant. I am mainly interested in the size of the beach - I can't seem to remember? Also, any must go to restuarants? We are planning on going to Normas, LTU Pub and might try Cosmos (didn't go there last year). Anyone have strong feelings. Went to the rockhouse last year too but that didn't quite make the top of the list this year. Thanks for the help.

My husband and I are returning to Negril in March - it will be our 7th trip. We have stayed next door to Mariposa two times, at the Gatehouse. The beach there is lovely and relatively quiet. As it has been 4 years since we were last there, I'm not sure about restaurant recommendations, except for Alfred's, which is always good for an inexpensive bite. Have a great trip!

Go to www.negril.com and post on the message board there. I know I have read a post from someone staying there because after I had dinner there last April, I considered it also - my daughter still says it was the best Italian meal she has ever had.

I've only eaten there myself - try the chilled seafood appetizer...yum.

For obvious reasons their clientele for accomodations seems to be mainly Italian.

PS: my favorite places to eat in Negril are:

3 Dives on the cliffs for casual, long hangout sort of meal...stop by and order your food, take a swim off the cliff and/or check out their cave and ask them to call down to you when the food's ready. Stay for sunset and the bonfire after. Really good cheap lobster and jerk chicken.

The Boat Bar - on the beach near Rondel, pretty close to Gino's. Great food, good prices, friendly service, maybe 20 feet from the water. Also casual.

LTU is a good pick, never had a bad meal there and the atmosphere is great...candles on the cliffside tables, etc.

Kuyaba...this is tough because I used to LOVE this place but last time we were there service was bad and food so-so. Nice romantic setup right on the beach though and if they're back to normal it's well worth a meal there.

There are still so many places I haven't checked out, especially on the high end but I hear Norma's at Seasplash, Norm's at Bar B Barn, La Vendome at Charela are all good.

...and Gino's had great service and great food last time we ate there.

Agree about Kuyaba - had a very disappointing meal there. Also had a disappointing meal at Charela - the menu had a lot of heavy pasta dishes and the pasty my daughter got was overcooked and gooey. I agree about Irie at Rondel - great snapper there and also liked The Boat Bar. We had an unplanned meal under the hut at Fun Holiday when a thunderstorm forced us in and while the meal was not particularly memorable, sitting there in the thunderstorm drinking Red Stripe while the rain poured down in sheets all around us was very cool.
