Looking for the perfect honeymoon spot...

We're looking for the perfect honeymoon spot to fit our budget. We're looking at somwhere in the neighborhood of $5000-7000 including airfare. Any suggestions? Pampering, beautiful beaches, clear water, and safety are the keys to what we're looking for. We don't need, or even particularly want, happening nightlife, the best snorkling, and extravagant shopping. I've heard Cap Juluca, Anguilla is good, as well as Caneel Bay, St. John's. I'm interested in what is out there. Any suggestions on where to go - or where especially not to go - would be EXTREMELY appreciated. Our honeymoon is set for late June. Thank you.

How long do you have for the vacation? How many days? Where do you live, east or west coast? You have a good amount of money to spend and really enjoy. The 2 greatest vacations I have ever been on were Maui and Australia. Hawaii you could do within your price range and really be pampered. Australia you need at least 2 weeks for and unless you have free airfare you will be cutting it close on $$. If you are set on Caribbean, (not that it is a bad choice) check out the upper end islands; St Kitts, St Barths, etc..

Greetings, With the current low fares from LAX to the South Pacific, you might want to look at Bora Bora or the Fijian Islands. Both are extremely beautiful and perfect for a romantic honeymoon. You can participate in as many island related activities as you wish or just hang around enjoying the island and yourselves. Unfortunately, these islands are well known for their upscale resorts, but they also have numerous less expensive accommodations. I think either destination would meet your stated requirements. Fiji is, at the moment, experiencing some "troubles" at the moment in Suva, it's capital. Most vacationers, however, will arrive at the other end of the island, at the International Airport in Nadi, and proceed directly to one of the off-island resorts. I've not heard of tourists having any problems.
Enjoy. Greg
Sean & Heather-

You might want to check out St. Lucia, I'm going there for my honeymoon in two weeks and it sounds like you might enjoy it also. I'm staying at Anse Chastanet which I'm really excited about, I could post a trip report when I get back and let you know how it was.

I think you had a good idea when you chose Anguilla, It is my favorite island so far. You should look into cuisinart,it was not finished when we were there but its ready now and it is getting great reviews.I think Anguilla is a perfect spot for a honeymoon!

St. Lucia!!!! Please check out the Ladera Resort. There are a ton of postings on this board if you do a search. It is one of the most romantic hotels I have ever seen. The island is absolutely gorgeous as well.
www.ladera-resort.com

I just returned from BVI and absolutely loved the Peter Island Resort as it is tranquil, subdued, beautiful, etc. It includes all meals and watersports, bikes are also available if you want to explore the island pedalling. The staff and service at Peter Island are impeccable. They will make a picnic lunch for you and drop you off via boat at one of the many private beaches reserved for honeymooners. It really is a fabulous resort and only an hour boat ride to Tortola if you want to visit a town for several hours of shopping or other exploring. Let me know if you want details of other places in BVI. Sheila

If you're considering Cap Juluca, you may not be interested in something as un-exotic as Paradise Island in the Bahamas, but my husband and I have been going to the Ocean Club for 9 years and each trip is like a honeymoon all over again. Originally we were reluctant to go there because we thought it would be too touristy, and most of it is, with Atlantis et al. But the Ocean Club is an elegant oasis - quiet and beautiful. Service is first-rate, friendly, discreet. You feel more like you're at a private club than a hotel. Guests are upscale and kids are mostly way down the beach at the Atlantis. I would recommend one of the larger one-bedroom suites (rooms 110 or 210, for example), but all the rooms are lovely and all have their own balconies. There's first-rate golf and tennis, a really nice open-air cafe right above the beach for lunch, 24-hour room service, and all you have to do all day is sit on that pristine white beach, loll in the gorgeous turquoise ocean, read, nap, take long walks, and enjoy the peace and quiet - yet 1/2 mile down the beach, in case you get bored, are all the casinos, jetskis, parasailing, etc. of the other resorts, and there are exquisite day trips to the Out Islands. Downside: no gym or spa on the premises, though you can request your own stairclimber, stationary bike, or treadmill for your room. Gym & other amenities at Atlantis, its sister resort, are available to you, and there's a plethora of wonderful restaurants, including the one at the Ocean Club itself, where you dine outside by candlelight amid fountains, torches, and white-coated waiters.
Go to Tortola, BVI. Fly into St. Thomas, take a ferry there. It is a safe, clean, & absolutely beautiful island. I recommend Long Bay Beach Hotel or Fort Recovery.
Stay away from St. Martin if you like an island with trees, flowers, shrubs & greenery. Stay away from St. Martin if you like to be treated nicely. Definitly stay away if you like clean beaches.

I did a lot of research in planning our honeymoon to the Caribbean. From what you are looking for, I would check out Turks and Caicos--possibly the Grace Bay Club or the Ocean Club. The beach there is supposed to be amazing--not too built up either. Also, look at Peter Island. A great website to look at is www.scubamom.com

I also did a tremendous amount of leg work for our upcomming honeymoon (in September)...We finally decided on St. Kitts & Nevis because we wanted something more exotic than the Bahamas (we have been there several times). Paradise Island in the Bahamas is terrific and the Atlantis Hotel is definately worth the stay! In St. Kitts we are staying at the all inclusive Jack Tar Village run by Allegro...now, we have heard bad and good things about this hotel line and decided to bite the bullet...after all we're there for each other (and maybe food!). I have been to Puerto Rico which was very fun. We originally wanted Hawaii but found it to be expensive and too long of a flight (we're from the east coast) for only one week. You may want to look into Turks & Caicos or Aruba (popular honeymoon stop). While our hotel is not right on the beach (5 min) I know that we will have a great time. As for it being hurrican season in the Caribbean...our wonderful travel agent assured us that if there was a hurricane we would be diverted to another island (less cost than changing our minds at this point). Good Luck with your decision...so many islands, so little time!
