Last minute vacation change
Due to my friend's emergency health crisis, my plans to go on a Caribbean cruise right after Christmas have been cancelled. Thank God we both took the insurance.
Now, I have the week plus free and I really, really need to get away by myself and enjoy some sun and just relax.
Where can I go as a single and feel safe and not spend an arm and a leg?

You might well enjoy as many single traveller guests have MAR BLUE -- both the original auberge and the new verandah suites -- in arguably the safest place in Jamaica, the South Coast in Treasure Beach. See jamaicaescapes.com
Jake's in Calabash Bay is also an option, if 'funkier' and more rustic.

Actually, you could still go on your cruise. Cruises are great for solo travelers because you are seated with other people at meals and everything is pretty self contained. You will have entertainment every evening without having to wander around a town alone.

I have already cruised...5x...by myself, but it was not during the holidays and I was able to receive an excellent 'single' fare.
This cruise included a deluxe first-class outside cabin with a verandah. For me to keep the cabin, as a single, it would have cost me over $4800. Approx. $600+ a day.
My last name is not "Rockefeller."

Is any place in Jamaica safe? I was in Ocho Rios (sp.) once for a day, on a cruise. Could not wait to get back on the ship. Was not comfortable walking the main street, the locals were 'in my face' the entire time. A friend was there for her honeymoon many years back and she also complained about not feeling in charge. BTW, we all live in New Yok City so we are used to being approached by crazies on the streets.
Traveler863 - too late, trip was cancelled this a.m. Sorry.
Decided to stay home this holiday season. Next year - - New Zealand.
