Sally - We rented a mid-size car, air conditioned through our hotel that dealt with a local rental agency. It was approximately $325 US for the week. The roads in Barbados are quite good, but there is quite a bit of construction on the island, depending on where you're staying. We were on the South Coast and they are replacing their sewage system so roads were dicey in spots. Taxis are also easy to find and price is regulated by the govt. on the island. They are very reasonable...can't remember the formula for fees but it was approximately $7-$9 US for a 10-15 minute ride. Most rviers are very knowledgeable and offer individual tours of the island for an hourly rate. Always ask what your rate is before going. US dollar is equal to approx. $1.95 Barbados. It's a great island and our second time there. Hope you have a wonderful time.

Virgina: We liked the resort very much. Rooms are beautiful, very large and kept very clean. One problem we did have was that we had a room that was in the front of the resort. There is road construction there due to a sewer system being installed so if you can, request a room that isn't away from the front. We ended up changing our room after we got there due to the noise. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. All facilities are shared with their sister hotel, Sand Acres, next door. That resort is also going through a face-lift, and we liked the Bougainvillea much better. There is a restaurant on that property which is good as well as the food at the Bougainvillea. Beach is great with nice sand and we had some pretty good surf while there. Water is warm and wonderful!! Beach activities, towels, etc. are supplied. The beach is also shared with Sand Acres. The pool is quite nice too with a small waterfall and a swim-up bar. Oistens is within walking distance, but probably several miles. (Don't miss Friday night at Oistens Fish Fry...super!) We had a car and didn't try it, but others were. The construction I mentioned affects your ability to get to St. Lawrence Gap which has a lot of places to eat and drink. Due to the road work, you must take the "long way" there. Construction is all over the island..you can't avoid it... and it does get a little annoying. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this resort to anyone. I think it's a very good deal for you $$. Have a great time!
