We, too, highly recommend this island and the Marriott. The hotel was so clean! It was very different from any other places we've been and currently is at the top of our list. There was so much culture and the food was wonderful - except for Fort Nausau, which was just so-so(Great view though, so go and have a 'Welcome' drink). Only 10% of the visitors are Americans. We loved the colorful downtown area. We were a little shocked the first morning at breakfast when our bill came, but we ate so much that by the time lunch rolled around we just split a Chicken sandwich or an appetizer by the pool. Our favorite place to eat was Le Clochard and anyone interested in an AI option at Marriott may want to check into it further as they offered it in 2000 and 2001, although they were late in pricing it. The Manager did say they were still testing the waters, so they may have discontinued it. We are leaving for the Grand Cayman in a couple of weeks and staying at the Westin and if we like that half as much as we liked Curacao, we will be very happy!

Interesting to read other people's impressions. They didn't match mine. I have been to Curacao a number of times for business/pleasure trips. I stayed at the Sonesta, which was lovely. If you drive around, you realize how filthy the island is. There are landslides of garbage tumbling down the sides of the hills. This wasn't in just one location; it was everywhere. It is an arid, windy island. All rental cars come with special security systems, as cars are stolen frequently. My clients told me to be careful every few hours. I enjoyed the scuba diving, but I would never go back on my own dollar, that is for sure!

We were just looking into the Breezes Property oursleves as the price was so incredible. We did rule it out however. There is so little known but
i did find one site that did contain picatures and a review - email me and I will see if I still have it.

The person who wrote the review (jsut got back) said that still alot needs to be inprived on this resort - namely staff. Food was very good at some restaurants but blah at others. The older building with rooms was also blah but the newer buildings are still being worked on and look to be brighter and nicer. Beach is what they wee calling a virgin beach - tons of coral - needed water shoes to walk the beach but once they got out intot he water, it was much softer but got very deep quick. They said in general the resort was ok -a typical Breezes - nothing grand but they did really enjoy the island.

Sue,
Which of all the many island that you have been to in the Caribbean has the longest stretches of beach to walk like Turks and Caicos? We are trying to figure out where to go this summer in August. We are snorkelers and beach people. Not big on fine dining like to drink beer, have the option of night life and relax. We have been to Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, St. John, Aruba, Grand Cayman and our fav. Turks & Caicos for the long stretch of beach to walk. Any recommendations?

Thanks!
Miriam
